fioricet...I did something really stupid
First off I suffer from migraines but since my bypass surgery in August, I have not had one...until today. I've been under a lot stress this week so it is no surprise I have one. So I did what I always do..took a fiorecet...a whole one...swallowed it in one gulp. Now a haf hour...I feel like I am drunk?..I mean dizzy, lightheaded, very woozy.... it has gone straight to my head.... And it NEVER does this... Any suggestions.... I won't do this again... but I want to be sure I am ok. And I don;t really wnat to call teh docotr and admit I was so stupid
Sorry that the medication made you feel so bad. Hopefully you are feeling better.
Can I ask a question, though? What was it that you did that you think was so "stupid"? Taking a whole pill? (If that's what the script calls for, why would that be stupid?) Swallowing it in one gulp? (How else would you take it? Are you saying you should have broken it into two halves and swallowed each separately? Some medications should NEVER be split.) If you took the medication at the prescribed dose anmd did not receive altered instructions, I don't understand why you think you did something wrong.
Some medication gets absorbed more rapidly with the intestinal bypass, but others do not. Likewise, some medications may require a different dose if your weight changes substantially, but others will have the same dose whether you are 120 pounds or 320 pounds. Obviously this medication (I'm not familiar with it) hit you harder than usual and needs to be adjusted or replaced with a different med, but I see no reason for you to be afraid to call the doctor and have to "admit that I was so stupid".

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I'm with Lora... Fiorecet is not an NSAID, so you did exactly what you should have done...
Although I do think there is a lesson to be learned here, which is that any time we take a prescription for the first time after our RNY no matter how it has or has not affected us in the past, we should do so mindfully and carefully. This is true of any medication though, and really there is only one way to find out, which is to take it and see!!
I don't know what a butalbital is but I'm thinking that might have been what made the difference since fiorecet has acetaminophen (325mg tylenol), butalbital, and caffeine (40mg) and that's it... Drugs.com: Butalbital is in a group of drugs called barbiturates. It relaxes muscle contractions involved in a tension headache. I would definitely think this is the component of the pill that "did it to you" because muscle relaxers can definitely make anyone loopy in a big or quickly absorbed dose!! :D
Definitely bring it up with the doctor, but don't feel like you did anything wrong or stupid because you didn't. And from now on, definitely don't take this pill if you need to be driving or operating heavy machinery!! :D
Huggles!!
