When to drink MAGNESIUM CITRATE on day before surgery?
I have to drink Magnesium Citrate to clean the old system out prior to RNY surgery on Wednesday. Some of you might not have been required to drink this clear liquid. For those who did, when can you drink it? Our information packet says drink in the morning on the day before surgery. Info says it starts to work in 30 - 45 mins and takes about 4-6 hrs to clear from your system.
I don't see why it would be a problem to drink it around 3 pm--as it would be cleared out by 9pm most likely.
I was hoping to come to work tomorrow and then try drinking it say around 3 pm or so as opposed to drinking it first thing in the morning which would probably impact my ability to work through the day. I really hate to miss tomorrow since I'll be out for so long recouping. But if I gotta be home while drinking this then, I gotta. Any ideas or suggestions. Any harm drinking it around mid afternoon?
Thanks for your help...I really appreciate it!!!!

My surgeon had me drink half of the bottle at noon and the other half at three. He said that if I drank it much later I'd be up all night.
I followed his instruction and was still having bathroom issues 15 minutes before they rolled me into surgery. I had a bigger problem with that then I would have had not sleeping the night before. I was terrified of an operating room table "incident"!

My doc said drink the bottle around 4-5pm the night before...well, I had nothing going on until 4am the morning of surgery and continued to have issues up until about an hour before they took me back. It was horrible. My suggestion would be that if you have never taken Mag Citrate before and don't know how it will effect you, earlier is bettter. Give your body time to do what it needs to do.
Also, all of the "flavors" taste like you are sucking on a lime, not to mention it's slightly carbonated so pace yourself if you can. It took me about half an hour to get the whole bottle down without puking it back up with each swallow.

Oh, do I remember that stuff. I took mine at 4:30 pm and was glad I was near the bathroom. It started working within about an hour and I was done in about 3 hours. Here's a tip that I got from my surgeon. CVS has it in grape flavor. Mix it with white grape juice and it's really not all that bad. Taste more like a carbonated grape water with a little salt.
I thought that my Mag Citrate would kick in within an hour, and I took it @ 9am two days before surgery per my instructions...it did not kick in until almost 4 that afternoon. I was in and out of the bathroom that afternoon and evening, even during pre-op the next day @ the hospital. So, everyone is very different, and to me I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus if you've never had it before Good luck on your surgery.

we have the same date and I am taking the day off from work. My doctor's instructions are to start at noon so that is what I am doing. At first I was going to try to work half day, but I am a nervous wreck and don't need the extra stress at work. Take it easy, do what the dr wants you to do, the work will still be there.
