question for those with PCOS
i was diagnosed when i was 17 and i am now 25. the first doctor i went to i did not have health insurance and could not continue to keep up with meds and the monthly visits. i did keep going for 2yrs. he did not suggest WLS but suggested i try south beach diet, and put me on metformin BC and somethign else. i got my period 7 days after taking whatever the other medication was and i would have to take it for 7 days the same time every month to get my period 7 days later. ended up having my peirod one time for 3 months and became anemic. needless to say after all those dr appts and hospital visit i stopped takign everything and couldn't afford to keep up with it. so i haven't had my period since. my new gyno that i had to see as part of my surgeons requirements he did say he agreed with my decision for wls.
I am PCOS (or was) and was on Metformin prior to surgery that helped me to have my periods (because insulin resistance is related to PCOS). They were anywhere from 45 - 45 days. Since surgery, I have had periods that are 28-30 day cycles like clockwork. I also had some spotting in between and since then have had a uterine scope and biopsy. They found a couple of polyps on my cervix that are causing the bleeding in between cycles and I need to have them removed.

Hi there. Since my surgery (after the initial 30lbs loss) I have had a period (up until I got pregnant) every month exactly 29 days apart. Very regular. I was diagnosed with PCOS as well prior. Had been on the Metformin to help but it still didn't regulate me. All throughout highschool I was on birth control, that was the only reason I had my period at all. Prior to that (since grade 5) I had maybe 3 periods. After highschool I had maybe one until I started the metformin for the last year prior to surgery. Sorry that's a bit all over the place, but that gives you a general idea. :)
I went from no periods to monthly cycles right away. Amazing as I have never been regular prior to the surgery. I did have some issues when I got my Mirena birth control, but it has straightened out. And now I have normal 28 days cycles. I still can't believe it. I never cycled without provera prior to surgery.
