preop diet question
my preop diet is either 3 protein shakes 1 for breakfast 1 for lunch 1 for dinner....and unlimited sf jello/popsicles, chicken broth
i can also replace either 1 2 or all of my protein shakes with 3oz of chicken, certain fishes, and 90% or more ground beef or chicken etc, and also 8oz of vegetables
my question is since i'm never hungry at work for lunch and i don't get a lunch at work and have brought a protein shake for lunch for the last 2 days and sipped it at work, i'm more hungry at night do you think it would really matter if i skipped my lunch protein shake/lunch and instead had 6oz of protein and 16oz of vegetables for dinner which i think would be alot easier/better for me since im NOT hungry during the day. my bad habits were always that i really only ate 1 big meal a day and maybe a snack so i'm so used to not having lunch anyway...so does anyone think it really matters when i eat the protein or is there a reason its broken up into 3x a day

I think it is essential you follow the plan. The idea is that as obese individuals, a lot of us DID skip meals routinely, messing with your metabolism..... skipping lunch and havnig a large meal will hinder the pre-op weight loss AND will not prepare you nearly as well for your postop life.
I know it's hard, but try to follow the plan!

I wouldn't skip any meals. I would have your shake in the morning and at lunch and your meal at night. I wasn't able to have a meal for my pre-op but I could have soups and greek yogurt. You have to get used to eating atleast 3 times a day. After you are post-op especially in the beginning it seems like that is all we do is eat and sip. LOL

It was always easier for me to get my big meal in at night. I had a shake for breakfast, one for lunch and then a "sensible" meal for dinner. I would not go all day without a shake though. Even if you sip on it all day, you need that protein shake.
You should also get used to having 3 meals a day. Once you have your surgery you will have to spread your meals out because you will only be able to eat 1-2 oz at a time. It is better to get used to it now than later.
Blood sugars also stay at a more even level if meals are spread out evenly during the day. Prevents plunges and spikes in BS.
Good luck!!

I agree that you should NOT skip a meal. Breaking your food up throughout the day helps keep your metabolism up throughout the day, and once you have had surgery you are going to NEED to eat at regular intervals and will NEED to eat even when you are not hungry. Start doing that now and it will make things easier post-op (when there will be LOTS of other changes you will need to focus on)>

on my pre op, i get a shake and peice of fruit for breakfast, a mid morning shake, lunch is 8 oz of yogurt and either 4 oz vegge for fruit, afternoon snack, i can have one of the following: 1 oz nuts, 2 tablespoon peanut butter, 1/2 cup beans or hummus along with 4 oz vegge or fruit..dinner is 4 oz lean meat, 4 oz vegge and one of the following 1/2 cupe whole grain starch or 1 slice of whole wheat breat, evening snack is shake, 4 oz fruit...
i have been eating a 4 oz yogurt for lunch so my nut said i can have the other one later if i want, and i split them up and move them a little but not whole lot....i know its a little different than yours, but so far it has not been that bad...like when i have to go on the road, i take a pack of mini baby carrots and nuts, they are easy for travel....i may use that as my mid morning instead of the drink, then have my drink later when i get home...my nut said it was ok that way as long as i get in what is on that list..
hope this was helpful in some way
