a lot of people have told me because i'm young my extra skin won't be AS bad with exercise, but i know it will still be some kind of problem. did anyone not have TERRIBLE extra skin with having to lose around 130lbs. if not, was it from exercising? and what exercise do you recommend - weight training/cardio or something like zumba

My sister-in-law had her surgery in her late 20's and doesn't apear to have any extra skin, except for bat wings. I don't know if she exercised or not.

I had my surgery 7 months ago. I currently have extra skin. I can see where I've lost weight so quickly that the skin hasn't been able to keep up. I was told though, that this is how it will be at first, but that eventually most or all of it should go away because I am young. (I was 24 the day of my surgery, currently I am 25).  The only thing that I noticed really won't go away on anyone is the batwings.

I would love to hear others responses cause I don't do any weight training and have been wondering if I should.

How much extra skin you have depends on many things, genetics, your age, how much weight you lose.  Hydration helps, exercise can strengthen your muscle core, but typically will not reduce extra skin.

just try not to worry about it too much.  You are going to be healthier, more active and may or not be jiggly.

Good post! I'm hoping 31 isn't the cutoff for "young" and hoping my skin has the same opinion. I did have a trainer who said working on triceps with freeweights would help with the batwings. I trust that statement about as far as I could throw his tanned butt

When I was in my mid 30's I lost 125 pounds on my own with a 1200 calorie eating plan, aerobic exercise, weight machines, and free weights. I did not have any excess skin and toned up wonderfully.
Now at age 56 and after losing 170.4 pounds with RNY, I definitely have stretched skin. That's what happens as we age. Since you are young, you should be okay as long as you don't regain a lot of weight like I did.

Age at RNY: 55, Height: 5'4", Consultation Weight: 331 lbs-12/1/2009, RNY Surgery Weight: 281 lbs-3/22/2010, Goal Weight Reached: 141 lbs-6/23/2011, Lowest Weight: 126 lbs-12/11/2011

Current Age: 61, Current Weight: 161 lbs-5/20/2016Total Weight Loss Maintained: 170 lbs

I would say.... .expect the worst (you saw my "skin" post?) and HOPE for the best

any stretch marks you have won't disappear, any EXTRA skin you've GROWN won't ungrow, but even so, my tummy, as hideous as it is, is FAR better than one would exxpect for someone with the level of obesity I had and the length of time I had it. So I would say that never give up hope. But seriously, don't think you'll be immunite, you are likely to set yourself up for disappointment that way.
