It was my tooth!? OMG!

Ok, for those of you who have been following my progress and trying to help me figure out what is the source of my headaches. Well, I think we figured it out....by accident. I had been dealing with some tooth pain for a few days and couldn't hang anymore. I figured a filling or two would be the solution. I hate the dentist and it had been atleast 8 years since I've been to one. I get some x-rays done. And the dental assistant calls the dentist in to take a look at what seems to be "something wierd" on the screen. We then proceed to take a few more x-rays from different angles. It turns out that the tooth I'm complaining about is next to an old crown that had a root canal done some years back. Well, the root canal didn't take. The roots starting growing back and started a deep infection in my jaw and tooth. So the pain I was feeling in my face every time I had a headache was because of this infection!!! OMG! I was given atibiotics to take along with some pain medication and got 2 fillings done that day. I now need to go to a specialist to see if they will re-treat the tooth or just pull it. I still can't believe it. So today after having the antibiotics for a few days I've had my 1st regular headache in over a year! My face doesn't hurt as much when it starts. And I can feel such a differnce! No wonder none of the other 3 doctors can figure out why the pain in my face was happening. So now I'm going in to get a bunch of work done that needs to be done. I may have gotten over my fear of dentists. This Doctor was so sweet and very gentle. I told him about my surgery for RNY, hypoglycemia and other medications that I have been taking and he took very careful considerations to what I can take for the infection. Once he came up with a possible medication he called my surgeon and asked if it was okay for me to have that medication. It was awesome! So yes, we FINALLY figured out the mystery to my headaches. Now it's time to get back on the road to recovery. I'm still in a bit of shock about how all this happened, but completely happy that I can put my finger on what has been wrong. I'm feeling a bit dopey because of the medication, but now I can sleep better.

It is wonderful! I still can't believe it! BIG YAY!!!!! This has been dragging on for some time now and I thought that I was just destined to have bad health! I was really getting depressed about it. Now my husband feels better that we found this out as well.

I'm glad you figured out what was going on.  I too have a major issues with avoiding the dentist.  I just went on Friday after, well let's just say, longer than you.  I'm glad it's over with and I am looking forward to getting my next visits over with and pretty lucky I only have a few minor issues.  I am not going that long again, because the longer I wait the harder it is for me to mentally prepare myself to go and I end up avoiding, so now I am going to stay on track!

Also, I heard that after weight loss surgery you are more likely to have issues with your teeth and gums due the malabsoption of nutrients.  So, I hope you get on a normal rhythm of getting to the dentist too!

I'm looking forward to getting everything done! I have to get over this fear for once and for all. My husband wanted me to go to the dentist for the longest time and I kept refusing. But this toothache was bothering me enough for 2 days to know I needed to see someone. I have 3 more fillings on the top right and then who knows what else on the left! They only got as far as the right side for now. Now that I'm learning more about what can happen to our teeth after surgery i know that it should be a priority.

I had the same thing happen (not the headache part) but the failed root canal... the oldest one in my head (had some medicine that killed most my teeth, so half of them are root-canals).....

Not to freak you out, of course, but when I went to the specialist, she wasn't "sure" she could save it, but thought she could. She was only halfway done when she got a phone call that a friend of hers had a heart attack... and amazingly she decided then and there that it wasn't saveable, but oh, $500 please! I was a bit ticked, and left feeling dissatisfied but knowing I couldn't fork out another $500 to get the same verdict from another specialist. So I went back to my dentist, and $2000 later, the tooth was pulled and a bridge was installed. Worse, the bridge has not yet been properly adjusted.... so I still can't use that side of my mouth. Half of that is my fault for not going in to get it readjusted the last month (since I can't sit).

MOSt people have easier times of it. just hope your specialist doesn't have a friend/family member have a heart-attack!

Wow! OMG! Yeah, it's been a worry of mine after surgery. I just want to feel better. I want to get rid of the infection and feel normal again. I just believe that it was tis bad. But yeah, nobody is touching anything without me knowing the whole story! It takes me a while to feel comfortable with a doc...especially a dentist.  Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
