Ugh...Easter meal at my moms
This is my first post op holiday.
My mom is an excellent cook. I take after her.
We had our Easter meal with her today (going to my dads tomorrow). Almost everything she made had sugar in it. I ate the center of the ham without the sugar glaze on it. And she had plain broccoli. But the jello was not SF, the potatoes were not SF. And the other veggie dish she had was OK to eat. And there was fruit. I told her she needs to start to look at her recipes and adjust because there is no reason why everyone needs all of that sugar.
Off to dad's tomorrow for brunch. They already go low/no sugar at his house and they are making an egg bake, so it shouldn't be so bad.

My family was worried about what I would eat and I told them not to worry about it - I pack protein with me just in case. But that being said - I know I can eat the ham and I am taking plain green beans and SF jello. All the more I can eat I don't want everyone else to have to change what they want to eat since I made this choice, Sure - everyone would be better with less sugar, etc. but it has to be theri choice. Not slamming you at all here - just saying that maybe when you go you could take something so you know there will be something that is okay.
I don't seem to dump on sugar/carbs, so I cam lucky. But I am also early out and I don't eat more than 3/4 c of food at a meal.
Egg bakes are great!

awww---sorry your Mom's not as supportive as mine! My dad's saying "why the hell does everything have to be healthy now?!" LOL My mom's attempting to re-create my favorite Wegman's birthday cake (has pudding in the middle and whipped cream frosting) in a sugar-free version since we usually end up doing my bday and Easter at the same time. She's experimented more with making her stuff "healthier" than I have! If it weren't for her I'd never have made it this far! And on the bright note, just cutting back on fats and sugar she's lost 10 pounds and Dad's lost 15--effortlessly!
I usually make sure that I make and bring a sugar free dessert. My dad is diabetic, but I always see him eat the dessert with sugar in it, so now I bug him and bring something we can eat. This time, I made a coffee cake that is sugar and flour free. I used cherry sf jam, instead of raspberry. I think it came out quite nice (already tasted it to make sure). :-)

My MIL made our food yesterday and though they are not sugar heavy, they are meat and potatoes people. Seriously, the total menu was meatballs, little polish sausages, a pie made of ground beef, creamy asparagus and cheese, salmon, potatoes gratin and a salad. Tons of protein but nothing light. I asked my wife where the vegetables were. This wouldn't be too bad if I normally ate meat. I went for the salmon, but I am absolutely going to have to pack my lunch for holidays from now on.
Pink!

She's from 339 to 200 as of 6/14/2012.. SOO proud of my bigbabygirl
