does regular medicare require a phtsician assisted diet
I have regular Medicare and the only requirements are a BMI 40 or over, or a BMI of 35 and one or two comorbidities (can't remember exactly), and medical necessity. They don't preauthorize so the surgeon has to be sure they will pay or they won't do the surgery.
The surgeon's office may have their own requirements such as a 6 month diet but I don't believe Medicare does. It may be different depending on the state you are in, though. You may want to give them a call and find out for sure.
