What my odds at a RNY?

I have severe anemia, potasium, and B-12 deficincey also take a lot of anti psychotic meds that my pdoc thinks will not be absorbed correctly I really wanted the rny over the lap band what do u all think?

The sleeve may be an option depending on your insurance as it maintains the integrity of your stomach and you can continue to take time release medications.  After RNY, no time released meds....

Cleared for surgery                                  4/29/11
Approved by insurance                            5/10/11

I agree, you should look for a procedure that does not include the malabsorption.  The VSG may be the appropriate surgery.

If you absolutely have to have time release medications then the RNY won't be for you.  I suffer from depression and had to get a special clearance from my Psychiatrist in addition to the Psychologist specializing in Bariatric issues to receive my clearance.  So your Psychiatrist will more than likely need to be on board with the surgery.  It really will come down to what you take and if there are non time release dosages of meds that provide effective control.

I would appeal... If they cover the DS, you could get just the first surgery of a DS, which is a sleeve... If you legitimately need to take time released meds and really need weight loss surgery too, you have a case for an exception, especially if you can get your doctors to back you on it with your insurance company!
