What my odds at a RNY?
If you absolutely have to have time release medications then the RNY won't be for you. I suffer from depression and had to get a special clearance from my Psychiatrist in addition to the Psychologist specializing in Bariatric issues to receive my clearance. So your Psychiatrist will more than likely need to be on board with the surgery. It really will come down to what you take and if there are non time release dosages of meds that provide effective control.
Have you considered VSG?
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
I would appeal... If they cover the DS, you could get just the first surgery of a DS, which is a sleeve... If you legitimately need to take time released meds and really need weight loss surgery too, you have a case for an exception, especially if you can get your doctors to back you on it with your insurance company!
