what do you take for pain?
I am undergoing RNY from lapband revision the 23rd!! My questions is, I have arthritis, not severe, but I have flareups. My surgeon said try Tylenol Arthritis. I have tried this, but especially on rainy days like today, I just plain hurt! The Tylenol Arthritis cut it somewhat, but not completely. I could probably "deal" with this level of pain relief, but right now I am 40 yrs old. What about down the road.... if the pain worsens?? What do you take then? I know this is all "forward thinking", but I was just wondering. What do you RNYers take for arthritis pain?
Thanks

Have you considered trying to revise to a VSG which is a restriction-only procedure like the band, but allows you to take NSAIDS
I take tylenol, and when that doesn't work, I'm all about the narcotics.
I have arthritis all up and down my spine (only recently discovered) and likely will end up somewhat debilitated due to this at some point or other. But so far, it's not too bad.
I'd ask for something for the pain that doesn't include NSAIDS...... see what they give
Some options:
Tramadol
Codeine
Norco
Vicodin
Percocet
And there's a new pain medicine my orthopedic surgeon was telling me about .... I forgot the name... it's new (so horribly expensive) but works somewhat different from opioids and might be the new rave when it's gotten less expensive.

I chased my dreams, and my dreams, they caught me!
I wish I could have done VSG but my insurance would not pay for it. I have bad shoulders. The real bad days Tylenol with codeine really helped - but it's almost gone. (It was left from when I had my surgery - didn't really need it then.) Liquid Tylenol has been wokring for me better than the pills but it is not always easy to find.
For pain that Tylenol doesn't help, I use Vicodin.
Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR. If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor. Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me. If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her. Check out my blog.
thanks ladies. The whole "pain med" issue is the only draw back for me with RNY. I don't mind taking vitamins or supplements. I talked with my surgeon and had initially planned on VSG, but my surgeon says she thinks RNY is what I need since I didn't lose with the band very well *before the slips and crappy complications*. And since my ins. is changing to a "one WLS in a lifetime" policy, I thought I'd better take her advice on what she thought would work! I have been sooo down lately and feeling like a failure regarding my band. I just want success after all this time!
Thanks

I have severe arthritis, in almost every joint in my body. It has actually gotten worse since I had RNY in 2008. I used to take percocet or ultram for the pain. both have become ineffective. I am currently taking cymbalta ( a depression drug found to have pain releiving properties) I can't feel a difference with it. I am also taking Prednisone (A Steroid) which helps but has a lot of REALLY BAD Side effects.
When the pain gets too intense I go to the ER and get shot up with morphine.
I am also currently trying to get insuarance to approve joint replacements.
