ok i was told by my surgeons office and NUT, that you count 1 oz of protein as 7 grams...but on my bag of shrimp, it says 9 shrimp are 21 grams...i know that some meat are more protein than others...i have some mahi mahi fish, dont have the box to read..but they are 4 oz strips...does anyone know the value of that protein?
also i have made some turkey meatloaf tonight for dinner...it has an egg in it, onion and some seasoning in it....i did have to use some panko bread crums to help thicken it up....we shall see how it goes at dinner time....i am 1 month post op and am on all foods, but grains and starches....
i have been trying to google some of the fish and such, but then i forget so have to google it again when i cook it.. ha ha..

thanks for the help

Generally, one ounce of meat or fish is 7 grams.  It makes it easy to track when you cannot always weigh and measure proteins.  As long as you get the MINIMUM required, a few extra protein grams are just a bonus.

Bread crumbs in meatloaf are usually not a problem for most people.  Keep to a small portion, until you are sure it works for you.

I either use the handouts from my NUT or calculate values on sparkpeople.com. Sparkpeople has alot of choices for particular food items so if it's homemade, you'll kind of need to pick the closest.

According to the label if there is one, otherwise a food counter of some kind.  Make sure to look at serving size.  I also keep my most common eaten foods with their food values on 4X6 index cards in my food journal.  Helps to not look it up every time.

When I make a meatloaf or something from scratch - I write amounts on paper and then enter the serving size with values on my index card.

Find a method that works for you.
