Two weeks out today and I think I dumped...

I had a nap today, still having some abdominal pain and after the treadmill and shower, I took some pain meds and zonked out.

So, I woke up and decided to have some blended soup with some shredded cheese.  The soup was some progresso meatball thing, 18 carbs per serving.  Not too bad, 2 sugars, 5 protein.  I am thinking that I may be lactose intolerant so I tried some "lactaid" for the first time to compensate for the cheese.  Anyway...I think I may have "slurped" it down a bit fast, I was really full.  Then about 20 minutes later I had to go to the bathroom really bad.  I sat there about 20 minutes and had the cold and hot flashes one gets when you have diarrhea.  Not pleasant.  I do feel pretty cleaned out though, so there is a bright side.

So, not sure what I did wrong.  Eat too fast?  Lactaid?  Cheese?

Any ideas?

My guess is that you just ate too much too quickly (soup is mostly liquid, remember, which goes straight through your pouch) or perhaps had a bad reaction to the fat content.

Not every negative reaction to a food is dumping, B****rue dumping involves more than just diarrhea and feeling pooroy... it involves a racing heart rate, shakiness, nausea, often dizziness, etc.

Hmmm...

I was a little tiny bit nauseas, but did not have a racing heart or dizziness.

I will check the fat content.

I will for sure slow way down!  I'm still learning.

It's trial and error for all of us at first... no matter how prepared we think we are for surgery and how much we think we know excatly what to do and not do... because everyone's body reacts differently!

Hang in there,

I would say it may have been too many carbs being that early out. People I know tend to tolerate cheese fairly well. Possibly ate too fast. I would shoot toward a half a serving to possibly 1 serving on whatever you try. Some foods naturally are more dense than others and it will take a lot less to get full. My doctor said when you eat to take a bite and put your spoon or fork down chew 20-30 times and go to the next bite. Another that was helpful to me was I had a supply of the little A & E yogurt containers. They were just the right size for me right after surgery.
