Four days and a wake up

I'm glad to have the boards to remind me that I am normal.  My nerves do not seem to be too terribly out of line with what other people have experienced.  Please be patient with me if I tend to ramble on about the same thing for the next four days.  Your support, encouragement, and kindness does mean the world to me.  The only thing that I have found to be not helpful from the boards are those that seem to know better than my Dr. That can be somewhat disheartening and stressful, but we take the good with the bad right?  Definitely crawling in my skin .... (which I hear will be in an abundance when I am through.  I just hope I don't resemble a flying squirrel, and if I do, I hope I can glide from building to building with my flying squirreliness ..... )

Yes, it's very important not to seek medical advice here! Your doc knows best.

Don't worry. The operation is performed thousands of times a year, and is really very safe. The pre-op and post-op are tough, but they're done in a few weeks. The important thing is to follow the doctor's instructions to the letter and to exercise as much as is permitted.

You're going to do great!!! My surgery was on Tuesday the 3 and I got to come home Thursday the 5. I was feeling so well on Friday, that we took our kids to see Thor! Once I started passing gas, it felt like Heaven! All the soreness in my neck and shoulders went away. Now there's just a dull ache on my stomack when I change positions (sitting to standing, standing to laying) I even slept mostly comfortable on my side last night. DON'T forget to have them give you your stomach pillow before you leave the hospital! If they won't give you one, you can get a travel pillow from Wal-mart pretty cheap. It will be your best friend for awhile. Anyway, congratulations on having your surgery date! It's SO wonderful!!!

Hey Shirley,
Glad to hear your surgery went well!  Did you have the band removed then have the RNY all  in one surgery??  Just curious!!

My surgery went fantastic! It was kind of like having a baby. The first day and night I was in alot more pain than I thought I would be in (not unmanageable though) then by the second day in the hospital, I was up and walking. I walked for an hour and a half the day after my surgery! Once I started passing gas, I felt SO relieved! The pain in my shoulders and neck went away too. Now I'm just a little sore. I take 1tbs of liquid lortab every 3-4 hours if I need it and 2tbs before bed.

I never had the lap band. When I went into my first consultation, I wanted the lap band, but by the time I met with the surgeon, did all of my pre-op testing, and had my psych evaluation, I had changed my mind and got the Roux-en-y gastric bypass instead.  I can't believe my surgery was 4 days ago and I have already lost 5 pounds!!! I LOVE my roux-en-y!!!

This surgery is a major issue . i myself wouldnt care if you rambled on and on. ive not had surgery yet, so i dont know what its like to do so. and alot of ppl here have great advice. some post, some dont .
But i always try to walk in somebody elses shoes. Newbies are scared and want to be assured they will be ok. it doesnt take 4 seconds to say something nice. so therefore it doesnt bother me one bit . i enjoy all the reads on here.
I  always try to comfort someone with a word or two if i can ... every little bit can help.  we wouldnt be askin the same questions , if we werent  feelin' a lil scared and desperate.. thats just how I look at it .. ask away and talk away . jabber all you need to . there will always be someone who comes along and try to ease your mind ..

Hi!  I am scheduled for surgery on 5/31 & the way I look at this is yes, this surgery is major.  However, the health problems we face by being heavy has much greater risks.  I know that if I don't do this I'm going to soon be following in the footsteps of my parents with heart problems, high blood pressure, knee replacements, back surgery(ies)....etc.  My husband is still not so sure about me doing this but it is better than watching me deal with the alternatives.  BTW - my bf had RNY 3+ yrs ago & has "bat wings" now but even she says it's better than the alternatives.

I have surgery on the 17th, a week from Tuesday, and I'm totally freaking out. From everything I've read I'll be in Tuesday, out Thursday.  I don't know what to expect afterward.  I live alone and a friend of mine insists I wont be wanting to climb stairs, so we've agreed I'll stay at her place through the weekend.

Info on what else to expect would be awesome.....anyone...anybody....Buehlur....

I'll be happy to share my experience with you when I get home of Friday ... or maybe Saturday .. depending.  :-)  I go from crying to being excited, but I'm a bit of a drama girl by nature ... LOL

Don't fret-I have a daughter 24 who lives most of the time at her boyfriends, so I was alone most of the time for the first couple weeks. Make sure you stock up on the supplies you need before your surgery, sugar free Popsicles, if you like flavored water etc. so that you are set with this, SF jello, and low salt broth. The first few days after I was home I stayed in bed, stairs were no problem at all.
With in four days I could spend part of the day on the couch and some in bed. My stomach felt better when I laid out flat for some reason, so the bed was more comfortable.

I am heading into my 5th week and feel great! Best of luck to you!!
