Who is saying you shouldn't have steak? I hadn't heard that before.

I eat steak, I just have to make sure it's not dry and that I chew the living you-know-what out of it.

Is it your surgeons office that is saying that?

I was on here before and mentioned it and some people said I shouldnt have it until 6 mo. to a year.  I like it, it's lean steak and has lots of protein.

SOME people think that everyone should be following THEIR surgeon's plan, and if you aren't, you're a cheater.

I give a bit of slack...figuring that people new to the forum don't realize that there are different plans. But I don't give further slack if this is pointed out and they continue to act as though I'm a bad person for following MY surgeon's plan.

My perspective is to FOLLOW YOUR SURGEON'S plan as religiously as possible (while using your head at the same time, don't follow bad advice) ...... during the first six months to a year.

After six months to a year, when your nerves are all healed, and you're ready to start living life, particularly once you are at goal, or near enough to decide you are done. Then you have to figure out how to LIVE your life....the whole schmear. SOME of your surgeon's rules won't work with you as a unique individual (I'm not talking about the not drinking with meals, that one should be followed by everyone) ..... so you figure out what works for you and you do it.

In the end, your surgeon wants you to be successful.. If you're successfully maintaning while visiting fast food daily, then good. But it's the maintenancce and long-term health that matter, not a set of cardboard rules designed to set you on the path more than anything else.

I disagree that it is the meat most likely to get stuck. In my nearly four years on here, the meat I have heard the most complaints about has GOT to be chicken. Seriously

My pouch looooooves shrimp first, but after that it loves steak!

I don't know what type of steak you are eating but the steak that I eat isn't tough at all, it isn't high in fat and if chewed properly doesn't get stuck - and it certainly doesn't need to be marinated or pounded the crap out with a tenderizer.  I think you need to find a better quality steak.

Weird. I was told by my surgeon that when I was cleared for solid food at 9 weeks I could have whatever I wanted, within reason, as long as it agreed with me and I remembered to chew, chew, chew so stuff wouldn't get stuck. I've eaten steak since the get-go, because I love it and because it's dense protein. Early out I could only get down a couple/three bites at a time though.

Of course you have to follow the pouch rules, but if you want the steak you can probably have it. Since you ARE relatively early out, you might want to run it by your surgeons office if you haven't actually tried it yet. If you've already tried it and were fine, I don't see the issue.

Just be careful. There must be some reason why a board member or members had issues with steak. I just can't imagine what it would be.

red meat is not recommended by a lot of surgeons because it can set in our stomachs for days.  I can eat red meat fine but then I have pains in my stomach for days because of the red meat.

I eat it anyway but suffer some times
