Why is steak bad?

Weird Tamara.  I've never heard that before.  Thanks for the explanation.

Wonder why it can sit in there for days if it's properly chewed?

Every surgeon's plan is different.

If your surgeon says you shouldn't have it, you probably shouldn't..... at least not in teh first six months or so.

If your surgeon says it's fine, and your BODY says it's fine, then it's fine.

I loooooove me some steak! It's about the only meat that nearly always works for me.

I thought she said some folks on the board said she couldn't have it - not her surgeon?  I must have misread.

If it WAS your surgeon that said to wait, then yes of course PLEASE DO WAIT  until you are cleared. Sorry if I misunderstood and created confusion.

I was covering all the bases.

There's no reason to avoid something just because other people have plans that restrict if. If your plan says it is okay,a nd your BODY says it is okay, then it is okay

I loooooove me some steak.

A few weeks ago I responded to someone about it and then it started a thread where people were saying things to me about I shouldnt be eating red meat so early, and on and on and on.  The instructions say 6 mo but Im going to ask my doctor tomorrow.

If your surgeon says 6 months, that is when you should have it.

Ah, THAT part was not in your first post.  I wish you would have included that little tidbit.

If your surgeon says 6 months, the ONLY proper way to deviate from that is to have them okay it.  Glad you're calling the surgeon tomorrow - it's really your only option if you want to remain compliant.

Also, next time you have a question like this, it would probably be best just to put what your surgeon says right out there when you ask the question.  I for one was under the impression that your surgeon had not addressed it one way or the other since you didn't mention any instructions and were asking our opinions.

ALWAYS go with your surgeon's instructions unless they specifically tell you to go ahead and make a change.

Sorry I had to find my paperwork to make sure it said 6 months, I thought it was a year, but I needed to verify first.  It says 6 months to a year, but it doesnt say why, and that is the question I will ask.

mmm.. I love steak. JMO, but Lady is correct. There are NO black/white rules with this after you are 6+ months post op. I do what is best for me, as close to my surgeons plan as I can get.

As the others have said, it is likely because THEIR surgeon's plan tells them not to have it yet.  If red meat is on your surgeon's plan for 3 months out, and it doesn;t make you sick, ignore whoever is telling you not to have it. Some surgeons have very conervative post-op plans and some (like mine) are pretty liberal. What matters is that you are following what YOUR surgeon wants.
