Eating Out Of Boredom

I got off track and was behaving like I used to before the surgery. I have been analyzing myself extenstively and so far have found that eating out of boredom is one of the culprits fueling this behavior.  Any advice or comments on how to best deal with this would be much appreciated.

You might try and develope new "active" hobbies. Reading, painting etc. didn't work for me as they were to sedentary. Also something completely new that requires lots of Research and brain work. LOL. I also find that besides eating while "bored" I also tend to eat more when I am tired and trying to stay awake. For example if I was up most of the night due to insomnia, but need  to stay awake all day, I'll tend to eat more to stay "active" unless I get out the door and get busy.

I resorted to buying a Nintendo DSI-xl.  You can't use both hands to play and have a hand free to eat.  If you are really struggling, do something where you don't/can't eat.  I never eat in my bedroom, so as a last resort, I go watch TV.   and, even though chewing gum is not a recommended practice, it does prevent eating other foods on 'desperate' days.  You do what you have to.

Keep your hands and mind busy. When I was doing pre-op diet, I blogged and stalked the forums here like crazy. I also don't eat in the bedroom and it's the furthest room from the kitchen so I go there when I shouldn't eat....
If you find you mindlessly eat while watching TV, put something in your hands to do. Not everyone likes knitting..... Maybe get some playdoh and make things with it or just squi****Or get a stress ball or free weights.
