swallowing pills

my dr gave me the OK last thursday to start swallowing pills. i've been talking calcium citrate as a liquid but cvs had a good sale on calcium citrate + d3 miniatures. they are alot smaller then the citrical petites, however i swallow 1 of them today(but i need to take 2-3 cal pills) and i was able to get it down ok but i guess it got stuck or pouch didn't like it because for a couple min i had gas/bubbles that i felt in my throat. it was only a slight pain nothing major and it went away after a few minutes. i'm assuming it was too big for my pouch still? you can't break them in half easily cause of their shape, but im wondering if those symptoms i had was because the pill was too big, or is my pouch still swollen? i'm 1 month and 5 days out. i do absolutely fine with small pills like biotin but i'm just wondering also when did everyone start swallowing pills a little smaller then the citrical petites

Youtr pouch size should not have anything to do with it... after all, you eat more than the volume of a pill...

Did you drink enough water with it? There are lots of people who swallow pills with no problem from day one after surgery...

I took a good size sip of my chocolate protein RTD shake. a little on the thick side i'm not sure if that had anything to do with it. i may give it a shot again tomorrow

I am having the same problem swallowing calcium pills...even the petite ones!  Good to know it's not just me!  I went back to the chewable until  I see my surgeon again.

I have serious pain if I swallow a pill.  Even a small capsil like a tylonal.  I have found putting them in a big spoonfull of hot tea turns them into a powdery lump that I can swallow.

Pre surgery I could sallow a handful of pills at a time. I'm 4 months out now and have to choke down even small pills so for the most part I stick with chewable vitamins. I feel the choke feeling in my throat- not my pouch and it goes away quick but I still don't like the feeling so go with chewable.

I'm not sure why, but my bariatrician told me at my 3month check it was too early for calcium pills...everything else including multivits were ok. Perhaps she knew that they can cause GI upset, but didn't tell me when I can start them either.

Most calcium says to take with a meal so if you had an empty stomach to start with it may have upset it. You said you took it with your protein shake, but did you already have some shake on your stomach to start with? Maybe take 30 mins to an hour after a meal or a protein shake?
