my multivitamin has 8mg of iron in it, and i have to take 2 a day. i know that's not enough iron so i take 65mg of iron from vitalady at the end of the night.

my question is since i'm taking ADDITIONAL iron, can i take my multi and calcium together or does it still need to be seperate since there is some iron in it

iron will interfere with the absorption of calcium. So, if at all possible, separate the two.

Thanks. That's what I have been doing was seperately but I was kinda hoping I could cut down how many times per day I take pills - but I guess not! thanks!

Calcium interferes with iron. I take my calcium with my multis because that speck of iron in the multi (sitting right next to the calcium in the multi) is doing me no good at all.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

You got it backwards.  Calcium prevents the absorption of iron.  Iron doesn't interfere with the absorption of calcium.

If you don't mind not absorbing the iron in the multi, you can take your calcium with it.  You'll absorb the calcium.  Just not the iron.

 Kelly,

Maybe you could answer a related question?  Post op I bought Optisource before I found out about how evil they are.  I now take Bariatric Advantage mulits.  I haven't tossed the Optisource ones, but wonder if they are better than nothing or if the wrong calcium (carbonate)250 mg. combined with the 7.5 mg iron make them just bad for us.  I wasn't going to take them instead of the
BA multis, just extras since it makes me sick to throw away a $25 bottle of vitamins.

Thanks!
