post op with PCOS
i hadn't had my period for about 4 years now. i read when i was pre op some with PCOS had their period almost immediately or within a couple of weeks. however I don't know if those who had that happen already had REGULAR periods. i am 5 and a half weeks out and still nothing so i'm just wondering how long did it take for any post ops with PCOS to actually become regular
I'm a PCOSer as well. Now I did have almost "regular" periods though. I think i'd go anywhere between 29 to 40 days between them, but they usually happened about 8 or 9 months out of the year. Now they are like freaking clockwork at about 28 days. Hope you get some more answers. Good luck!

I don't have PCOS and always had a very regular cycle - every 30 days. I got my period almost immeadiately after I got home from surgery - which was only about a day early. As of today, however, I am about a week late. Not sure if this is normal or not. It is certainly somewhat disconcerting - something that was always like clockwork is now out of whack... So, I know that didn't answer your question at all - but I just thought I would share my post-op experience of becoming irregular with you.
Aside from that, everything is going well for me - as I hope it is for you too!!
Aside from that, everything is going well for me - as I hope it is for you too!! I didnt have a period due to PCOS without birthcontrol...i had spotting 4 days out from surgery in march, and got a full blown period 30 days later in april...i can feel myself PMSing and im pretty sure i ovulated this month so im waiting for it...i think it takes some time sometimes...do u notice improvement in any other symptoms?
I have had PCOS for about 10+ years. I know you didnt necessarily ask this, but PCOS wont ever go away, even with RNY... so basically some problems might still be evident. You will still need to be regulated with pills or shots to have your period. You should still avoid bad carbs(bread, wraps, sugar, refined white flour, candy, etc etc) like the plague too.... as that contributes heavily to the PCOS condition.
I too have PCOS. The rudest surprise when I got home...72 hours post surgery and I had my period. I hope that they will become more regular for all of us, both because hey, it would be great to see that change in our systems and it would just be a good indicator that our insulin resistance (at least in my case) is disappearing!
Good luck...
Good luck...
I have PSOC as well. I had surgery on May 9th and on day 4 post-op I spotted for 3 days. I read a previous post stating this happened to her and the following month she got a full blown period. I am hoping for this! I rarely get a period on my own... maybe 1-2 times a year. I've heard it is common to become regular (and fertile) after RNY surgery once you have lost a significant amount of weight. It has been medically documented that RNY increases fertility. A lot of women with PCOS who thought they'd never get PG, do get pregnant. Of course, it is not recommended you do so till you are 18 months post-op.
Hang in there and good luck!

Funny you should post this today. I am five months out, and got my first period today. Haven't had once in seven years since I came off the BCP. Have never had a normal cycle unless it was pharmacologically regulated in my life. I wonder if this is just a pop-up surprise or something I'll have regularly?
