Protein shakes totally suck. I use Nectar and only buy the one that will taste good with milk. I know that adds to the calories, but mixing in milk masks a lot of the aftertaste and is only way I can take in supplemental protein.

BTDT  I remember the gagging.

Luckily I found one that works (when I kill the flavor w/ instant coffee.  & years later I'm still drinking it!

I am only a week post-op, but I am so over the protein shakes.  I think if I have to choke down one more shake I am going to scream.  I just ordered the Unjury chick soup and a Synthrax Nectar.  I am hoping they are more tolerable.

"If I could make the WLS community a protein shake...and mix it in with looooooove...if I could teach the world to sing, in perfect harmonyyyyyyy..."

Kidding. I don't mean to speak in jest because I REMEMBER this. It's sort of like when you see your five year old scrape their knee. You remember the pain but it's endearing at the same time.

Shakes don't have to be nasty. Watch this:

This is something I go into in my (highly mythical yet much talked about and yes it really does exist) forthcoming protein shake book. You don't have to LOVE your protein powder. You just have to know how to effectively use it as an ingredient to make a good shake.

I hope these links help you do that.

I agree with Nik!  Pre-surgery I made a protein shake every morning and LOVED them!  I have not been approved to add back in milk, veggies and fruit to my diet, so I am not yet having my favorite shake, but hopefully soon!

I love a shake with vanilla protein powder, half milk, half water, a little plain greek yogurt, sf vanilla syrup, and pumpkin!  Sprinkle in some cinnamon and YUM!!  I can't wait until I can have it again!

Instant coffee will mosr certainly mask the flavor of the shake. I think for some its not as much the taste as the consistency of the mixture. Surely for me. Anyway, totally by accident, I realized if i make the shake and let it sit for about 20 minutes, the solutions seems to become smoother and more palletable. More like cold coffee versus nasty cold coffee flavored protein snot.
I make mine with the following
1 scoop vanilla powder
1 instant coffee stick
2 splenda
8 oz 1% milk
5-6 ice cubes
Blend until coffee absorbs into mixture, put in a container with LID AND let sit in fridge for about 20 min.

As a matter of fact I am going to make one right now.

That's why I've been spending mega money ordering my Muscle Milk Light Cafe Latte RTD online and paying outrageous shipping costs! LOL It's the only one I can get down--well, other than the creamsicle one I made with no sugar added vanilla ice cream, skim milk, Chike orange dream powder, and SF orange syrup the other day...
