Although RNY is a good choice, you can lose with any WLS.

KEEPING it off is another story entirely. Mine is an older surgery, so like a hybrid today of RNY pouch with DS intestinal arrangement.

Given my 17 yrs, I would choose this surgery again, or if not available, a DS for sure. It's not about GETTING it off, it's about KEEPING it off.

All surgery types require supplementation, but sounds like you're good with that.

My choices were limited in the 90's. No internet, so what I saw: restrictives were still kinda roundy and vomited daily. RNY reached goal wt and didn't vomit unless they got stupid. My limited view in those days.

I had 2 docs. One said, a Korean man of few words, "With restrictive, you diet. With RNY you lose wt."

That's pretty simple

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

Hi!

I really only had to choose between the lap band and RNY before my surgery, and I decided to go with the advice of the doctor evaluating me pre-op for surgery and my surgeon and go with the RNY.  I had a larger BMI and more to lose, with a few co-morbidities, so I really don't have any advice for you on making the choice.  I really just wanted to "weigh in"  (I know, lol) on the surgery in Mexico thing.  I'm not knocking it, my insurance paid for the surgery, so I didn't check into it.  If you wanted more info on this or advice on who to see down there, there is a blog that you should check into.  www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com   she had her surg in Mexico and RAVES about it!  She also states on there that she would love to answer anyone's questions about it.  Hope that helps!  PS-  She's got AWESOME post op recipes too!!

Good Luck and Best Wishes on a speedy recovery!

Thank you.....lapband was never an option for me because I have no one to do the fills....I would have to fly somewhere and get it done...closest one is about a 4 hour plane ride...

I decided to go with ryn also because of the diabetes risk, heart....that runs so thick in my family...and my doctor has talked to me about diabetes numerous times....

My surgery is booked for  July 1st.....in Peurto Vallarta...I am not to worried about surgery there as i have had 5 of my friends use Dr.Joya...and they all talk about how amazing of an experience it has been, how clean the hospital was, and how creditted he is...so I am at ease with that...

I am however terrified for surgery...I think most of how my life is about to change..(which i am ready) but it is still scary non the less.....

Thank you to all that replied!!
