Need advice. Have to talk to Dr. about pain control.

So, I have quickly become aware of the fact that I minimized my need for NSAIDS after surgery.  I have had a headache for a full week that sure would feel better with an excedrin.  My knee and hip are sore, I know a lot of us experience that.  800 mg Ibuprofen would sure be nice for that!
I had menstral cramps last night that would have been much more controlled with some aleve.

Tylenol does nothing for me.

How have you dealt with this, I know I can't be alone.

I am a bit depessed.  I was FULLY aware of the no more NSAIDS, and over time told myself I would be fine without them.  Seems that was wishful thinking.

When things get really bad your doctor can prescribe for you one of the low dose pain meds like you took in the hospital after your WLS.    Since you are fairly new post op you need to call your surgeon and talk with them about this ASAP.   Hope you get some relief soon.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

That has been a hard road for me as well. At first, I stuck with the Lortab meds the doc sent me home with and it worked well. I actually got a refill on it and when I have severe pain, I will take it at night. It works well for me. I believe Lortab is Tylenol with codeine. It doesn't make me loopy or anything so I am ok with it.

For long term, I figure I just have to suck it up and see what works best for me. I've honestly been hesitant to take ANY meds on a regular basis because I figure my liver is working harder than ever and doesn't need the stress.

You may find that liquid forms of meds work better and faster for you as well.

I have back problems and I use Vicodin and Flexeril.  I don't use it often, but my doc is willing to prescribe it for me.  He understands I can't take NSAIDS.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

I do what curvy does. All of my med providers have been very understanding after I explained to them that I can't have NSAIDs and why. Once they know it's not just a personal preference, they are okay with writing for stuff they don't normally prescribe as a first course of action.

Still, I too wish I could take NSAIDs, and underestimated just how badly I would miss them. I'd gladly trade my percocets for some ibuprofen almost any day.

Hope you feel better soon=)
