I am very curious, after surgery  (5-3-11) I had gotten this horrible disease called C. Diff (that's a whole other story) that I am currently on medication for, during this whole episode I constantly had the dry heaves, which made me wonder.... Are we able to vomit anymore? I mean I really felt like I would have felt better if I could have, but I dont think I could have. And if we are unable to vomit after surgery are we ever able to again?

Oh, yes, we can vomit. And you probably will at least a time or two along your journey.

Sorry you got C. Diff -- that's a nasty infection -- hope you're all better now!

Vomiting after RNY surgery is difficult for most patients.  I'm 5 years post op and I truly only vomited once from some spoiled meat that was heavily seasoned and bbq'd.  I threw it up about 30 minutes after eating. I've actually tried to throw up a couple of times, even trying to put my fingers down my throat. No luck, just dry heaves.  You have greatly diminished stomach acid post op due to small pouch size.  DAVE

I have vomited a few times but usually from eating too much and don't realize it til it's too late. Starts with a watery foamy mouth and eventually something has to come out. the trouble i experienced was that since i do not drink right before i eat and do not drink during, the content in my pouch was very solid. The difficulty came from DRY content, mostly protein, making its way back up thru my throat. and that was not a easy journey.

I'm with Dave....we don't truly 'vomit' anymore...as in needing to bend over the toilet and gush/spew several times...I know, TMI

After RNY, we just 'erp' up like a handful....because that's all that fits in the pouch...

If you've had something stuck from eating too fast or not chewing well you may 'erp' the foamies several times....still won't be much volume to it....

Speak for yourself, I truly bend over the toilet and spew several times, vomit. And if I'm having a really bad day, I have to sit on the pot and barf in the trash bag because it's coming out both ends at once.  sorry tmi

when I was pregnant about 2 yrs ago, I had morning sickness for about a month and it was just dry heaves and a little stuff came up. That was my first real experience with throwing up since I had the surgery the year before that. Since then, I've only thrown up like maybe once or twice and it's just like dry heaving and a little foamy... gross! Nothing like before though, where I just puke everything up- our stomach's are so small now that's why!!

Hit goal weight of 140 at 13 months out from RNY!! 130 pounds GONE!
