ryn vs sleeve help please...
Hello,
All the best with your decision making between the two surgeries. I've had two revisions firstly the Lapband back in 2000, then revised to VSG in 2007 and now just recently revised again to RNY. Out of the 3 surgeries so far this is the most comfortable I have ever felt.
The lapband made me up-chuck constantly for 7 years and I suffered shocking reflux and chest pain. The VSG I went well with for quite a long time but I still suffered bad reflux (GERD) and not even Nexium (Acid supressing drugs) helped towards the end. The surgeon also discovered I had extreme pressure in the sleeved stomach and I had popped 3 bleeding ulcers and was hospitalised in the ICU (Intensive Care unit) for 3 days and had 5 blood transfusions. It was after this the surgeon made the decision that I had to revise to RNY to alleviate the high pressure in my stomach before I ruptured altogether. By doing the RNY it has now created low pressure for me and now I have barely any reflux and no up-chucking, this is the most normal I've felt in years.
Good luck with your surgery whichever type you decide as it's a proactive decision for your whole new life ahead.
Cheers from Karin (in Oz)
