Have any ofyou tried the Citracal Calcium Citrate Extended Release?  I am having a hard time taking my Calcium three times a day and thought since I am able to take pills now I would try it. It has 1200mg just like the chewables....

it's the wrong type of Calcium, it's Carbonate

We don't do extended release well either

Not all Citracal is created equal

read hte ingredients if it has any other type of calcium than Citrate it is NOT the right type.

I'm sure the vitamin gurus will have an answer, but I think that all extended release vites have enterric coating which is a no-no for us.

Actually, according to their own website, it's a combination of carbonate and citrate, with carbonate listed as the first ingredient and citrate second.  That means there is more carbonate in these than citrate although they don't give  you the exact percentages.

Another reason to just stay away from it - no telling how many you'd have to take to get in the appropriate amount of citrate.

Here is the website:

I was given strict instructions to have no extended release ANYTHING post op by my surgeon. It just doesn't work well for us, for a variety of reasons. Our new systems don't process it properly.

I totally know your pain about having to get everything in during one 24 hour period. I have to get in 4000mg of calcium a day and at 500mg per dose, feel like I'm taking my calcium all day long. Heck, I guess I AM taking it all day long, lol.

Best of luck on your continuing journey=)

I, too, was told no extended relaease anything, because I wouild not absorb it.  If you eat three times a day you should be able to take your calcium right before you eat and get all 3 doses in...

Extended or slow release do not work well for us due to our malabsorption and the enteric coating on the pills. Also, the calcium needs to be straight Citrate, not Carbonate or a mix of the two.

If taking the pills is difficult for you, try chews or liquid Calcium.
