G-Tube Smells

I am 6 days post op and I have a g-tube.  It has been draining fine everyday, not excessive or odd colored.  The fluid always had a smell, but this morning I can smell it all the time.  My hole isa little red and has a little discharge, but my doctor told me that it would be like that as long as the redness isn't more than 2 cm.  What bothers me is the smell the most.  I smell it all the time.  I don't even want to leave the house because I don't want others to smell it.  I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow and ask her about it.  Has anyone that has a tube have this before?

Hi
i am just past 4weeks out and i also have the g tube . I keep telling my husband i can smell it also, but he swears to me he cannot. I have to have it in for two more weeks. I was into my second to third week before it really srarted healing and not bugging me so much. Now, it doesnt hurt,i just know it is there, less redness, still draining, and about a nickle size discarge daily, but My doc said completely normal. I apply neosporin around the skin by the tube before i dress it. My biggest problem now is not the tube, but my skin ripping off with the tape! Eekk that hurts. A nurse friend gave me little pads with a solution on them to rub on my skin where the tape is going and that is supposed to help not take my skin with the tape!!! Today is my first day using it...well see. Good luck. Hope i helped.

Thank you for answering me!  I am all panicked and worried that something is wrong, but everything is exactly how my book that my dr gave me says.  My husband says I need to quit worrying about everything.  I am using it thought to get some of my liquids.  I am a little nervous about using for proteins though, because I am afraid it'll get clogged.  It's funny that my husband tells me the same thing that he can't smell it either.  I get it out on July 5th and I cannot wait.

It could be that you have a heightened sense of smell after your surgery.  I did once after having surgery to remove a twisted ovary.  Everyone's breathe smelled bad even the transport guy.  I did not have this issue with my RNY.  Are others smells bothering you as well?
