had my labs done a month ago and my vitamind D was 26....been that low since before surgey and probably for a year or 2 without me knowing. as suggested by several here on OH to take 50,000 IU of vitalady's dry d3 daily and retest after a month - i did. now my vitamin D level is 120...which from what i read on here people say to stay around 100...since 120 seems very high to me, how should i cut my vitamin D down now instead of taking 1 a day everyday what does everyone suggest i take now?

I had D issues post op, with an 8 on my first labs. Taking a liquid vitamin with 600 iu of dry d3, I got to a 33.  I then began taking the 50K IU dry D3 from Vitalady about 2 1/2 years ago. I had labs in OCT, 2010. D was a 65, taking 4 of the 50K per week.  Trying to attain the 80-90, I now take 7 per week of the 50K and I'll see where I'm at in a few months.  Personally, I'd tone it down a little, maybe 5 per week.  Eact post op absorbs D3 a little differently. Some post ops claim to be 80 plus on labs on only 10K per day.  Labs on a consistent basis will let you know vitamins levels, so you can adjust them up or down as needed. DAVE

Wow, that is why I hate when people tell others to take the 50,000 unit dose daily. Yes, some do need it but for others it is way too much.  You went up 100 points in 1 month, if you didn't get tested for 3 months or godforbid, 6 months, you would be off the charts.  Now, the scary part is  being that the labs were done a month ago, you are probably off the charts by now.  You really need to make a pretty big cut and get retested again in a month.

I thought I absorbed it fast, I was at 36 and took it 2 times per week and went up to 97 in 2 months. If I had taken it daily, I can't imagine what would have happened.  My level went down a bit, so I went up to 3 times per week and maintained a great level around 100 for 2 years.  Then all of a sudden after no changes, my level skyrocketed to greater than 150 - they couldn't even measure it, it was off the charts. So, I am now back to 2 times per week.

As far as your dosing, you went up 5 times your level in 1 month. (and you are probably much higher by now)  Granted, you don't want to go back to where you were but you also don't want to keep going up.  It is really a tough call and I think you are going to have to do a lot of tweeking until you find the correct dose.  I would cut your dose to 3 or 4 times per week and get retested again in 1 month.  You wont go all the way down and I am hoping you will go down to around 80 -100 without continuing to go up.

When I was at greater than 150, my doctor had me stop it all together for 10 days and get tested.  then when the results came back a week later, they were 112 - so I went back on my D but on 2 times per week instead of 3 times per week and I have maintained a level of 110 so far - that was 2 months ago.  I will get retested again in 2 or 3 months.
