food question for a newly post op...HELP!

So my two week post op diet is a "liquid" diet that consists of healthy request soups (strained), yogurts (fruit strained out of them) protein shakes, sugar free popsicles and water. I love chobani yogurts and ate them all the time in the pre op liquid diet but now that I am post op I really want to try some but I am scared. The peach and strawberry flavors is what I normally eat and they say 0% but they also have 19grams of sugar. I know I won't eat a full serving but do you think that is too much at 4 days post op?  I don't want to make myself sick before my incisions are even healed!

Thanks for any advice!

I don;t know about that particular brand of yogurt, but it really depends on whether any of that sugar is ADDED sugar versus the sugar from the fruit and milk.  Looki at the ingredients to see if there is added sugar.  If so, I would avoid it so early out.  Even if there is no added sugar... or just artificial sweeteners... I would proceed cautiously and just try a very small amount at first.

Yogurt or any dairy product is going to have sugar.  That's what lactose is...a sugar.

Its a shock for a lot of people because the never paid attention to that line pre-op.  Most just looked at the fat/calorie of their milk or yogurt and never noticed the sugar.

Yogurt is generally allowed on the full liquid phase (at least it was with mine) but you may want to start with a lower carb yogurt.  Krogrer has a house brand called Carbmasters if  you have a Kroger near you.  The Weigh****chers brand is also pretty low in carbs.

I'd hold off on Chobani at least right now because greek yogurt is so thick it can be hard to 'strain'.  You could do plain greek yogurt and sweeten it up with some SF Torani syrups or splenda and some FF/SF pudding mix.

Good luck.

Personally, I didn't have any issues with them.  It's also how I learned I could eat apx. 19-20 grams of sugar before I would have a dumping episode.

But since you are so early out and you don't know yet...I would avoid the ones with the added sugar.  Have you tried the plain with additions?  I like to add SF jello pudding in the cheesecake flavor and top it with a tsp of SF strawberry jam. Just add a TBSP or so and try it.  You will have to tweak it to your tastes.    It might be too early for the jam but the SF cheesecake pudding shouldn't bother you.

I wouldn't suggest you eat it yet.   CarbMaster from Kroger's has much less sugar and is very tasty.  In addition, you probably do not want to know you don't dump and if you do dump you may be miserable.

Most of people post op RNY use plain Greek yogurt and then add fruits and flavors as needed.
The pre-made flavored yogurts have a lot of sugar added to them.
Initially - when you can only eat 2-3 oz, that may not affect you, but later on , when you can eat 6 oz... 20 gr of sugar is A LOT.

I have steered clear of the flavord Greek yogurts and I am 2 years out. I just don't trust that sugar content - don't see the ingredient lists on line, but their honey flavored yogurt does add real honey, which could induce dumping.

Stick with the plain Chobani, and add the SF pudding mix (it's still one of my favorite lunches).

Can you tell me if you add the sf pudding mix powder or do you make the pudding first and then add it? Also how much do you add to it? (I am a new post-op too). Thanks.

Add a tablespoon or 2 of the dry sugar free pudding mix.  Do NOT make the pudding according to the package firsts.

Yep, Winnie is right. The mixture will be thick - you can add a bit of milk to get the consistency you like best.
