Should I be concerned or Happy?

So I am 6 days out and I have had no problems getting in 8 oz protein shakes from the get go. My plan calls for you to consume your "meals" in 30 minutes and then stop or if you feel "full" stop before 30 minutes. I can easily consume a 8 oz protein shake over 30 minutes and I don't have any full feeling. It is not a problem.

In a way I am very happy that I can get in a lot of protein etc, but I am hearing a lot of people say that they can't get even close to 8oz in at a time. Is there something wrong with me that I can get that much in? Should I stop sooner that 8oz? Just don't want to screw anything up!

Thanks,

Kristie

I didn't have any trouble getting in 8 oz of protein shakes either.  When I started eating solid food, I could not consume that much, it was just liquids.  I wouldn't worry!

Thanks for the info guys! I feel better! I just wonder why my surgeon and dietician would say consume for 30 minutes and/or if you feel full stop...if there is no way to feel full. Do some people feel full? With all the preop education I got and reading I did...I still feel like I should have more information or at least more detail specific! I guess I am a chronic worrier though!

Hey either way 25 pounds gone since preop liquid diet...I'm not complaining! :)

Wow! My dr. has me drinking 4oz. protein shakes four times a day. Should I be drinking more? I don't go bac****il 7/11/11 and am thinking that he will progress me to the pureed stage then. It seems like everyone else was started drinking 8oz right away.

I was the same way you are -- I had no problems getting my liquids down right from the start. In fact, I was so thirsty the day after surgery I drank an entire 32-oz. carafe of water in about 2 hours! When I expressed this as a concern to my surgeon, he laughed and said -- "That's how it's supposed to be!"  Don't worry about NOT having problems -- you're having a smooth recovery and that's something to be glad about!

Every surgeon's plan is different. For example, after surgery I was on clear liquids for 2 weeks followed by 2 weeks on full liquids, but some people start on pureed foods right after surgery.  Most everyone ends up doing well no matter what the details of their food plan are. Keep following your doc's plan and you'll do fine.

I had surgery the day after you and I have no problem drinkin 12 oz ff milk in a short amount of time. In the hospital before my release the dr. gave me 8oz cup of water.. and told me drink this while I give you you discharge info. She wanted to make sure we get that liquids wont bust us open and we need to stay hydrated. I havent had a problem meeting protein goals or fluid goals bu****er tastes horrible. I do find if I take too big of a sip I will hiccup once and that is kinda painful, but I dont think our pouches do much to liquids, kinda just a funnell so its not as big a deal.

Thats what I was thinking too....like a funnel, but I just wanted some opinions since I have also heard from so many that there was no way they could do more than 4 ounces at a time...it kind of concerned me!

I think 4 oz of something heavy would be hard, but not liquids..  I can feel for sure when I took too big of a drink though
