My finger nails are splitting and are soft?

Does anyone know the cause of fingernails being soft and splitting vertically and tearing all the time? Thanks in advance.

I would imagine, just like your hair, fingernails need protein & other vitamins as well. Maybe try increasing your protrin intake...if thats possible.

Do you take Biotin? How about calcium citrate? Were all of your labs good?

I would call my surgeon maybe, and see what he thinks.

I agree with having your labs checked. Hair and nails rely on protein for strength. In the meanwhile, there are clear strengtheners you can buy in the cosmetic section.

I don't know the cause of your fingernail issues but I'm having some issues with mine also. I have these deep lines that run horizontally across about six of my fingernails. They are very strange, hoping my surgeon will run some labs before my next appointment! Good luck to you!

seems like a lack of vitamins, have you been taking them? have you had your levels checked? Personally my nails have never been longer and stronger I attribute it to the 10 vitamins a day. Maybe you aren't absorbing them? I'd call the doctor. Good luck.

Last time you had labs done, what was your vitamin A level? Vitamin D?

How much protein are you getting? Calcium citrate?
