Crushed ice instead of regular water???

So....i'm like, 5 days post op and I'm afraid I'm gonna get dehydrated.  The only thing that seems to go down easily enough as far as actual water is concerned are ice chips.  If I eat an entire cup of these, will that equal a cup of regular water?  It just doesn't set well with me.  Iam eating popscicles and trying to get a protein shake in once a day with some chicken broth as well.  Every once in a while peppermint tea goes down pretty well, but I get sick of it.  Suggestions?

ice does count as water according to my nut.. i found that my pouch cant take the cold stuff even now that i'm entering week 3.. so i get crushed ice in 64 ounces from racetrac and devour that.. it will keep you hydrated. i also tried the cambells chicken soup without the noodles.....wayy better than the broth. Also i added banana to my protien shake with skim milk and that gave me some flavor. I went to a website called theworldaccordingtoeggface.com

you will love it she has recipes for everything, and its very informative!

congrats and dont worry..it does get better..i was asking the same questions 2 weeks ago!

I don't think 1 cup of ice = 1 cup of water because there is space between the cubes.  They do not stack evenly and take up all the space.

Does warm water go down easier? You should be able to get liquids down; even 5-days post-op.

Ice, popsicles all count as fluid intake, and it's important you get as much fluid as possible so what ever way works do it!  It's very common for your tastes to be off from anesthesia so just keep trying a variety of stuff to drink and eventually something will taste good.  Your protein shake is NOT optional- as a new post op I just made mine with 4 ozs of water and chooked it down till stuff started tasting better and I could handle a regular shake.

I had the exact same experience my first week post-op!  I sent my husband to sonic for an extra large cup of their crushed ice.  Do the best you can.  Keep at it continually all day in the beginning.  It will get so much easier very quickly.  Hang in there!

I like to shave the ice (I have a snow cone maker) and mix in some powdered sf drink mix--MMMM but yes, ice counts as water
