Mushy Diet Stage How Long Were You On This Stage?? Three Weeks??

I am post op had surgery June 20th and have been on mushy foods for about two weeks.  Is 4 weeks the normal ammount of time? Thanks everyone for your support!!

ONE DAY.  I was eating soft foods 3 days after surgery.

Ten poeple will answer your question in at least 7 different ways.  There is no "normal" because every surgeon does things a little differently.  Follow YOUR surgeon's plan.

My surgeons plan is absolutely nothing but 4 oz of NAS carnation instant breakfast every other hour alt with 4-8oz of clear liquids for 3 weeks post op followed by 5 weeks of puree after that. So it depends completely on your surgeons plan.

Each surgeon has a protocol for eating and drinking post op.  That said, surgeon's have also modified these protocol's depending on the progress of the patient. If you complain about a lot of stomach discomfort on a mushy diet, he may not feel you're ready for the next stage of your diet.  I know some pateints who ended up on liquid diets 3-4 weeks due to their post op progress.  "Normal" depends on your surgeon and how they evaluate your post op progress.
