TMI - Question about Constipation

I'll be 15 days post-op tomorrow and I have my first post-op visit with my surgeon on Thursday. I have had one or two bowel movements each day since surgery and today I only had one. I feel pressure like I need to go, but I struggle for just a little bit to come out. Is this normal? My temp is fine and so is my heart rate. I haven't had any issues at all. Is this something to worry about or should I just take a laxative tomorrow if I still struggle? Please advise

This issue is very common. Each patient needs to "find their own recipe" to deal with this. Stool softeners, warm fluids, prune juice, eating prunes, Miralax, increased hydration, higher fiber diet, etc.  No everyone has the same results from any one item. So it may take some trial and error. Exercise helps too. DAVE

I had the same issues. I took miralax. It takes a couple days to work, but then it cleans you right out.

Take colace stool softeners and dont ever force a BM,it will make things worse, I still bowel issues but continue to take your softeners, things will get better. GOOD LUCK and hang in there...

I totally feel for you...this had been a huge problem for me!!
I was taking three colace a day and going maybe 2 times a week.

However, I recently discovered that fruit makes me poop!! I was eating a lot of proten based meals and rarely had room for other food choices, but one day I threw in a 1/2 cup of strawberries in my Chobani Greek Yogurt and I am not kidding about 1/2 hour later I had to go... fluke? Nope...now when I have to go, I get a couple of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries etc and same thing happens about a 1/2 hour later. It isn't an urgent need to go, just a normal time to go!

Fruit is now my best friend!

I hope you find what helps you soon - it is a terrible problem to have!
