Eating out, small victory but still happy!
The guys in my office wanted to go out for lunch today, and they tend to give me a really hard time about not coming with them. So, I decided that I would go. Unfortunately, they were dead set on this chain restaurant that specializes in super duper sweet tea and gigantic potatoes covered in bacon and cheese. What's a 3-week post-op to do?
Well, research. I had time to go online and scout out the menu- I don't really go to chains very often, but I am glad that they have reasonably available nutrition info- and compared all my options. The salads were almost a whole pound just themselves! Crrrrrazy.
So we get there and having done research I can confidently order the kids' meal turkey & cheese sandwhich. I tossed almost all the bread. They gave me an applesauce, too, as part of the kids' meal (the ingredients were apples, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, and water- yeesh) and I had one bite of that. Cookies came with it and the guys were more than happy to take them off my hands.
I was so scared that post-op it would be impossible to do things with my friends, but no, a little preparation and it was all good. Well, wouldn't have been my first choice of food, but I got enough protein without too much awful stuff, and feel fine after eating it. Woohoo!
So the takeaway here is, I guess, Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance lol.
Edited to add that I didn't even have to show my Restaurant Card to order the kids' meal, even though there was a sign for 12 and under. Good thing, I went in there ready to rumble!

regular applesauce is so bad. i only get the natural now for me and the kids.
Good job on the research. A lot of my coworkers know I had surgery so they always ask me to pick the place, which I hate to do. I can usually find something to eat...and then the boys end up finishing it off for me. :)
