Hi everyone...I'm 18 months out and lost 111 lbs!!! YAY ME!!  But struggling with chronic back pain.. I've done the injections, tylenol, ultram, physical therapy, and cymbalta.....finally surgery, but it created scar tissue that made the pain worse than what it was when I started!!! So ended up taking oxycodone and getting addicted....I need some ideas ...Oh and I take gabapentin too....still in pain.. HELP please!!

Wow.  How awful.  I have back problems too but the steroid injections helped.  I need to go get them again, though.

I think in  your shoes I would see a doc that specializes in chronic pain.

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

Hi! Thanks for replying....I went to 2 chronic pain specialists...one only gave the shots and the other the narcotics...there is so much to be known yet about gastric bypass patients....when I talked to my surgeon about medicine absorption and how it doesn't last long enough to relieve the pain for 4 hrs in a normal person...he said "It is what it is"...some answer, huh??
I'm very frustrated....thanks again! and good luck to you!!

I would sure love to hear back from you if you come up with an answer to this issue.  I've been lucky for a while, but I too have had two back surgeries and a couple of rounds of inter-spinal injections and would like to know what my options are if I ever find myself in that condition again.

I hope you feel better soon.  Sounds as if you've been through the wringer on this one.  Good luck.

Hi, DJ...I was taking 5 mg of oxycodone and I swear that it didn't absorb into my system....I kept taking more and more to get relief..and that's how I became addicted...do you notice any problems with absorption?? and the medicine lasting a full 4 hrs?? Mine lasted 2 hrs TOPS!  It's so frustrating....

I'm glad you posted this about pain and medication after surgery. I have horrible back and hip pain now, have degenerative disc disease, anyways, they took me off all narcs because I would eat them like candy, for relief not fun! I feel so much better without them, honestly, don't want to puke all the time is a big plus! but I have so much pain I cannot work some days..The hope is lose the extra weight, back pain could be more manageable for me. I really hope this is the case, and that you find relief that you need. If you have never had back issues you just do not understand...my husband is so lost when I cannot get up and do simple things, but bulging disc, pressure on nerves..blah!! Sucks!

Hey, I suffer and am currently suffering from chronic back pain and this time is the WORST the steriod shots didnt work this time so i am off to physical therapy and waiting for a call from pain management clinic. I had my GB to help lose weight b/c of my back. Was my surgeons idea to try GB to see if it helps my back. well, my back is 20 times worse now then before and thats with losing almost 80lbs =( I noticed the same thing with my meds they seem to work for oh 2-3hours at a time then i am back to excuriating pain. I was on tramadol and flexirl now they gave me some loratabs til i can see the pain management doctor. blah if those two options do not work then I am back to the surgeon so we will see. if you dont mind i am sending you a friend request..
