Can't seem to get rid of the gas!

I'm two weeks post-op and no matter how I try I can't seem to get rid of this gas! I can feel it bubbling in my stomach and on my side.  I haven't eaten anything that would cause me to get gassy but yet here it is!

I've been chewing Gas-X which seems to help for a little while and even walk a bit to get it moving....it's still there.

Anyone have any other suggestions on what to do or what did you do to get rid of it?

I usually have my one of my sons PULL MY FINGER, seems to help most the time but I am a guy .

Walking is going to be one of the best things for it as it gets things moving around.  Other than that all I can say is enjoy the calm before the storm because once the gas starts comming out "OH MY GOD IT IS ON!".

I would also floow the advice in Don's signature and NEVER TRUST A FART!

I found the dissolvable Gas-X strips worked better for me initially. It went really well. But it did take a few weeks for the gas to go away completely. For me, it's linked to carbs - any carbs.

Hey there!  I crowned myself the "queen of gas" right after surgery.  I started a probiotic, cut out all milk, and that seemed to help.  Now that I am a little farther out, I still have not introduced milk into my diet.  I don't really miss it.  I don't drink protein shakes made from "powder", just ready to drinks kinds, of course lactose free.  The best thing for me is to limit carbs.  If my carbs are low, I have very little gas.

Hope that Helps!

Walk as much as you can. Gentle bending side to side every hour will help as well.

Gas X didn't do much for me, sorry to say.

And as for carbs, remember that if you mix your protein shakes with milk, the milk does contain carbs. Some mixes work well with water or iced tea or decaf coffee - but don't make it harder than it needs to be.

Gas can be a persistent problem at various stages - not quite the same as it is immediately post op, but I find that I struggle with it at night when I first lay down. Something about changing positions I guess.

Good luck with your recovery!!! I am a Michigan Native by the way - from Rochester, and worked for Utica Schools for several years. Not far from your neck of the woods!
