Protein Bars vs. Protein Shakes

Ok, so I'm almost 5 months out and I'm going through the "I hate my protein shakes" phase.  I tried a protein bar the other day and it was 200 cals but only 3g of sugar and 20g of protein, fat was low as well.  I know that Nectar is only 100 cals and I'm just adding more cals than I need but what is the harm?  Maybe only 3 times and week but I'm nervous.  Is anyone just having bars instead of shakes? Set me straight because I'm on the fence here.

I just do bars.  My nut told me no shakes after I was 6 weeks out and I use them as meal replacements.  I have one almost everyday for breakfast.  I don't eat meat (just fish occasionally), so I find that I need the little supplement to get to the minimum protein requirements.

I do both Bars and Shakes everyday, but only so I can hit my daily protein goal which is fairly high.

I do bars a lot more often than shakes these days.  They are so much easier and quicker and more convenient.  They are great when I need something to grab and go.  They usually keep me full a bit longer than shakes, too, although my shakes are pretty filling to me.

I don't eat any bar with more than 200 calories, which is almost the same amount of calories in my shakes.  But I aim for 200-300 calories a meal, anyway.  Bars can be high in sugar, so I read the labels carefully.  I suppose they have a good bit of carbs too, at least most of them, but I don't really count carbs.

I tend to make my shakes with milk which takes the calorie count up close to your bars. I just don't see a problem if they work into your overall plan. I'll sometimes take a bite of a bar to fix my sweet tooth.

Enjoy!

I've tried all kinds of bars and I guess my new tummy can't handle them because I get sick everytime and I'm almost 9 months out.

I stick to my shakes, they have never done me wrong. I mix mine with skim milk to up+ my protein count.

A lot of bars have high amounts of sugar alcohols and make me sick too. Try Quest bars or About time. Both will send you free samples.

I count carbs and keep my daily way under 50g but aim more for 30g - most bars would eat up my allotment of carbs so I keep them only as a sporadic treat and just daily suppliment with shakes. No harm in bars, just depends on what kind of stats you're aiming for.

I've tried some of the bars and you have to watch the sugar AND the sugar alcohols. I've had the pure protein bars and can only do half and even just that amount makes me nauseous after.
