For those who had the surgery and only a few weeks + post-op when were you able to eat salads and what kind of salad dressings could you use?

What were you able to put on the salads, for instance: tomatoes?,  cucumbers? grilled chicken? etc.

I started eating salads at 5 weeks out.   It consisted of spring mix, roasted red peppers, pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and black olives.  I usually use fat free raspberry dressing or other fat free dressings.   I have gone on to having salads with tomatoes, cukes, garbonzo beans and zucchini as well as green peppers chicken, shrimp, and steak. Of course the meats are at different times. I enjoy a good salad.

OMG! The stuff you mentioned that you put on your salads sound so good! I have two more weeks before I can try eating it I guess!

I had the fat-free raspberry vingarette salad dressing before and it's very good!  Never tried garbanzo beans on a salad before, is that for your protein?

My surgery was March 1, and I am still not eating salads.  I tried tomato, cucumber salad with a little evoo  and vinegar but had diarrhea the rest of the day...so I am staying away from that for a while more.  I was not even aloud to have salad in the third faze of my diet.  I miss salads.

Do you think it could have been the vinegar that messed up your stomache?  I would think that would be a bit strong.

I could not eat salads until probably close to 8 months to a year.  Raw vegetables upset for pouch for the longest time no matter what they were.  Now it is my favorite food and what I order in restaurants more than anything else.  I do not have any limitations regarding what I put into the salad as long as things are cut up well.  I use olive oil and balsamic vinegar for my dressing.

I tried lettuce and tomato for the first time about 6 weeks out.  I am almost 10 weeks out now and I have a salad almost daily.  I make a meal out of it so I use spring mix, grilled chicken or shrimp, cheddar cheese, almonds, mushrooms and balsamic vinegrette dressing.  It sounds like alot but here is the portion,

About half a cup of greens
3-4 ounces of chicken or shrimp
less than one ounce of cheese
6 almonds
one sliced mushroom
1 tablespoon dressing

I make sure to eat the meat, cheese and almonds first to get the protein in, then turn my attention to the greens and mushroom.  I don't usually get through the whole thing but thankfully my pouch loves salad!  :)  Best of luck to you. :)

I started salads at about 3.5 months out and now I eat one everyday. I don't like to use the oily salad dressings. They make my stomach hurt. I use the fat free creamy ones.
