I thnk my head is going to explode.
"How can I be proud of someone who takes the easy route? Someone who decides that having a surgeon cut them open and rearrange or modify their insides is easier than eating less and exercising more? It's just lazy.

And if you're too lazy to cut calories and exercise, you don't deserve to be skinny."

ok, you and what army? This was easy?? Oh, apparently I didn't get the memo on that. Yeah, I just walked in the surgeon's office and told her to slice & dice me because I like to take vitamins for ****s & giggles. Because I haven't been on diets and doing it the hard way since I was 12. Riiiiiight.

OK, my head has gone back down to normal size.

I'm glad that MM posted this on her blog - much like someone said in the comments section, no reason to give the New Times the pleasure of our internet traffic - and thank you for starting this thread. Just reminds me that -isms are still alive & well.... Gonna go pound my anger out on the treadmill now.....

I'm guessing you're not familiar with Beth's (Melting Mama's) sense of humor or wry wit.....

I read that yesterday and got pissed big time. But then thought you know what. The person that wrote that doesn't deserve my energy. It was a shock piece and I believe that it was written to get people to visit their paper.

Oh and MM didn't write the piece some idiot did. She just blogged about it. She herself is a member of this board.

^^^^RIGHT ON!! This was a scary learning process! Yeah I could have done it myself, and before my surgery I was eating healthy foods, stopped eating fast foods and was Walking away the lbs and doing Tae Bo but in two months I lost only 17lbs!  Why should I wait a year to only lose about 65 lbs of my weight when I can be on the road of better health and weight now within a year losing 100 lbs!!

Which would you prefer 65lbs? or 100lbs lost within a year?  Surgery being easy HA!! I think being gutted like fish is less desirable for a lot of us.....being laid up and dumping, pain, etc. is not a picnic!  For me this was my last resort, I didn't wake up years ago at being overweight and say "I'll have surgery!" I've tried and tried for years to lose weight, my mind was there for awhile but I fell off the wagon and off the wagon and off again!  At least I tried! I don't expect someone with such a pea size mind to understand where I'm coming from....but the fact that the person hisself was obese is something I can't fathom!! This person of all people should be understanding coming from where I've been!  Go figure!!

I was at my 1 month check up on Weds and this woman was there with her parents and husband for her pre op appt. She brought her parents (even though she's in her 50's) because they aren't happy about her decision and her and her mom have gotten into quite a few arguments about it. her mom, mind you, is 90 lbs wet, never been overweight. The daughter is pretty big and could really benefit from the surgery. I learned all this stuff just sitting in the waiting room waiting for my Dr. lol Anyway, the daughter as finishing up with the surgeon so the mom comes and sits down 2 chairs from me. I say to her, do you feel better about it? She says, "NO! but it's not my decision, nobody asked me!" Just really ****ty tone too. Then she asks me how long ago I had surgery (1 month) and asked me how much weight I lost before surgery. I told her 38 lbs, she says, couldn't you just keep losing weight on your own and lose the other 90 lbs? Ok, how can I answer that in 30 secs? Well the nurse called me back just as she asked but I did tell her that no I don't think I could lose all that weight on my own because I've never lost more than 40 lbs on any other diet I tried. I agree with you krislbt41, I start losing weight but there's a sense of burn out or whatever and off the wagon we go! Yes the surgery makes it easier to lose weight but that doesn't mean it's the easy way out. What if someone is losing on their own and during their journey they continue to have health problems and they worsen? Getting the weight off sooner, faster, puts us in a better place then waiting more than a year to get there. We have nothing to be ashamed of!

WOW.  TIME OUT IS RIGHT... WHAT THE HELLLLLL??

Apparently who ever wrote that wasn't really obese or doesn't know the pain some people go through physically AND mentally with being overweight.

It's NOT just about "counting calories"--- sometimes it's called GENETICS.

The nerve of some people... I'm so pissed I don't even know what else to say....

Then what I wonder, if the author from New Times is himself obese, how much self hatred was involved in that article? I'm looking forward to Melting Mama's response, if she deems it worthy of any comment; it sounded like there wasn't enough coffee in the world to keep one's head from spinning.

All you can do is to walk away shaking your head about
how some people can be so stupid and still walk upright.

Let the idiots make fools of themselves; we know the
truth.
