Vitamins on a budget

What brand of calcium citrate did you find?  It's really unusual to find chewable calcium citrate in stores.

I agree with other posters, $171 for six months of vitamins is really cheap.  I think I spend about $50 or $60 a month on mine.  Unfortunately, you are almost certainly going to need at least a few other things, like iron and D3.  Still, that's not a bad price.

I have been pricing vitamins also and starting to stock up..My fiance and I are BOTH having surgery soon, so obviously that amount will be doubled for us.  I figure that we spent more than that just eating out (more like OVEReating out..lol!) and at least this is for a healthy reason
What brands did you buy?

MsDores,

I'm a full time student and we rely on one income as well  and I agree with you (all the stuff we need is expensive!)--looks like college will have to take a hit for winter session.

But, that's okay, I kinda need a break anyway....  Hang in there sweetie--YOU are worth the expense you invest into yourself.  I know things look a little overwhelming --at least for me it does.

"This will all work out"...that's my newest mantra...lol

I thought you already had a date   (??)

Well, take good care not to have a melt down over money..."I know I'm working on that right now."
Love and light --many many blessings

I watch for buy one get one free at CVS and Walgreens.  I buy the store brand equivalents.  It seems that one or both stores have something on sale each week.  The only thing I bought special was chewable calcium citrate and chewable iron that I bought from Vidalady.  After my first 3 months I will convert to OTC calcium citrate that you swallow.

Poet_Kelly, I found a brand called Solaray - they are also the ones who make the chewable B Complex that was so difficult for me to find! There is also a brand called TwinLabs that I found that makes Calcium Citrate Tetrahydrate Chewables and my NUT said that was an acceptable form of cal citrate. Both brands were found at The Vitamin Cottage. I'll be getting iron in my multi and hoping I won't need anything else. My surgeon's vitamin regiment is 2 multi's a day, 1200-1500mg calcium, 1000 mcg B12, and one B complex per day. I guess he'll adjust as needed based off of my post-op labs. :)

Brenda - I've been approved and had my pre-op appointment with my surgeon, but they've recently changed the way they schedule the appointments. They used to do it then and there in the office, but since my surgeon is also a general and trauma surgeon, his other office is doing the scheduling. I was hoping to hear from them Thurs or Fri, but didn't. Hopefully Monday... and still HOPING to be in the OR sometime 9/12-9/16! As for college, it is the only reason I'm able to do this right now! I'm going to end up paying for it later, but I took out more loans this semester than normal because I knew these expenses were coming up and that my hubby wasn't going to be able to cover them!

Thanks, that's good to know that there are some chewable calcium citrate options that can be found at least in some stores.

The reason I said you'd probably need additional iron and D3 is because the ASMBS says RNY patients should have additional iron (well, menstruating women should, anyway, and in your pic you don't look old enough to have been through menopause) and almost everyone is deficient in vitamin D even before surgery.

Yep, no menopause for me. It's still a long way off since I'm only 27. :)

I've been thinking that additional iron is probably a good idea for me because losing weight causes me to menstruate more heavily and more frequently than normal, but I wasn't sure how much is too much to take in a day. This is probably a question I should ask my NUT!

But yes, I am very thankful that I found them in a local store so I don't have to worry about running out and/or my new shipment not arriving on time, etc.

Please check with your surgeon's office. They can enroll you in the Recovery Program offered by Bariatric Advantage. You don't get a choice as to which 'flavors' you receive, but will be eligible for up to a 6 month supply of Multi, Calcium, B-12 and Iron.

My daughter is 25 and a college student had surgery August 2nd and qualified for this program.
