Just curious. I read so many posts about hair loss and just wondering if it will happen to me. I know I have heard all about the effluvian whatever its called...lol and I understand that. However, I just got my hair done and I asked my stylist about it. She said my hair felt very healthy and that she didn't think I would lose any. She said hair that is about to fall out feels different and is not usually as healthy as my hair. My hair is also very thick so hoping that if it does start to fall out that it won't look too bad.

I've been lucky- no hair loss, at least so far.

That's awesome Anne! How much protein and water do you get in a day? How about when you were a new post-op?

My hair is extremely healthy and thick and its coming out in handfuls. It's depressing. I am about 10 days short of 4 months out and 'they' say it's something that lasts about 4 months... I hope I have enough hair to last me... LOL

I have long, healthy hair. Well, had....... i do not smoke, I do not drink alcohol or anything. I went the first 3 months with no hair lossand then it kicked in. Almost half, andI mean half!! is completely gone :( It is soo thin. I have always had real think and healthy hair, I have taken the biotin, zinc, and then bought 100.00 worth of nioxin hair products and NOTHING has stopped it from happening. Not trying to scar you, but the stylist should have never told you that your wont fall out. If she knows anything about bypass patients she would have not said it. i am so sorry you are worried, I was too. I started to think mine would not fall out, cause it was going well. And with all the vits that I take and the hair products, I thought surely it wouldnt, then my surgeon told me that honestly, all those things will not stop it. Most of us all lose hair but it will come back. I really hope it comes back real soon:( Good luck to you and god bless:)

So far I have not either, but I have a ton of it. I have heard though that it doesnt start till 4-5 mos post-op. I will am almost 4 so I am getting a lil nervous about it!!I have not been great about counting my protein. I do eat it first and all, and also take biotin so I am hoping its enough!!But I have also been told even people who eat a ton of protein loose hair

Your hair will not look unhealthy in any way or feel any different before it comes out, because it isn't unhealthy...  This type of hair loss is very different from hair loss due to severe illness or nutritional deficiency which is probably more what your stylist is used to seeing.

I'm sure I did lose some hair because I can remember getting sprouts around my face (like fine baby hair) but it's not like it came out in handfuls or I had bald patches.   I generally keep my hair at shoulder length

I have thick,  dead straight hair but it's texture has changed over the years but I'm not convinced it was because of the surgery.  It has a definite kink to it now and it WILL hold a curl - it also feels slightly coarser ...

My hairdresser says I have fabulous hair - for my age!!!  Not sure how much of a compliment that is LOL ...
