High sodium intake and osteoporosis...

Was reading the January Prevention Magazine, (yeah, one of the few guys that read it).  So aside from higher cancer risk, diabetes, dementia, sleep apnea, and kidney disease...Salt may increase the risk of osteoporosis.  As RNYers we are more prone to bone density issues to begin with (malabsorption).  Below is a quote from the magazine.
"High salt diets have been shown to increase calcium loss, which weakens bone and leads, over time, to osteoporosis.  A 2-year study of postmenopausal women connected a decrease in hip bone density to sodium intake..."

Interesting. I know there's a higher incidence of fractures in RNYs even when our calcium levels have remained normal. Maybe this is part of that issue? Thanks for the info. :)
