I am so not used to this-being sick

This is the second time since my surgery (6-24) that I have been sick. I have been in the medical field for 16 years. I NEVER get sick. All I have is a cold, but I feel like I have been hit by a truck. I have no energy and am so tired. I have been going to bed very early (9pm-10pm) and I still feel sluggish. I haven't had caffeine since prior to surgery and yesterday and today I put a scoop of click in my protein drink.

So is my immune system weakened b/c of having the surgery or b/c of the RNY?

I think the early months are just plain tough for some of us- I was nauseated for 4 months straight. But now, strangely enough, I miss those early times. Maintenance isn't so easy, either, and I miss not having hunger.

Hope you feel better soon!

I had surgery March 1st. Typically, I am NEVER sick....hadn't had a sick day at work in five years pre-surgery. But after, I got two sinus infections about two months apart, then in July, got knocked on my butt by PNEUMONIA...crazy, in the middle of the summer. I've never been that sick before.

After doing some research it seems its a pretty common thing after major surgeries, not just RNY. Your body just has to recover and it takes awhile, plus you aren't taking in calories in a normal manner. My doctors office told me to be vigilant about my vitamins and I added an extra 1000 mg of Vitamin C daily to my multi, calcium, D, Biotin, etc. He also said to make sure I was getting in more than the recommended fluids and make sure I was getting my eight hours sleep. I've been good for almost two months now, so hopefully I'm past it. Hopefully you will feel better soon.

Check your vit D level.
With high D supplementation - I rarely get any colds.  Some others reported the same things.

Hey Hala-
My D level was 18 prior to surgery. I am taking vitalady's 50,000 IUI 1 per day. But I am sure it still isnt at normal level.
