Surgeon said I can do salads but.....

I'm a bit skeptical on eating them.....even though he said make sure the lettuce is shredded really good.  I do however want to try pasta salad first then slowly move to garden salads.

I'm a month and two weeks out today!  What should I do....should I just suck it up and go head give it a try?

I think you should try salads if you want to but if you have to "suck it  up" to  do it, then wait a while.   You don't have to try them yet if you don't want to or don't feel comfortable.

I'm not sure why you want to try pasta salad first.  Garden salads are healthier.  Some people have trouble tolerating pasta, too.

I waited until about 4 months out before I ate salad.  I have heard several people say that they can't handle iceberg lettuce since surgery, so I used baby spinach.  It became my favorite meal for quite some time.  I had really missed salad.  I don't know that I would try it that early out, but if you feel that you can... only eat a very little bit to make sure that it goes down well and stays down.

Good luck.

I had salad at about 2 1/2 months out and I was fine.  I don't recommend making it your entire meal, but a few bites with some protein would be fine.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I was thinking a month and two weeks was kind of early too! But he did say it was alright and I don't have to put all those toppings on the salad like I use to just some meat like chicken and maybe a bit of cheese and dressing.

I am 2 months out as of AUG 27th. I have had some great salads. But I will say that if  you do add something like roasted chicken, cut the chicken up really small. Because with salad it is easy to chew mindlessly. Just like with all foods introduce only a few ingredients at a time. So if it does not agree with you, it will be easier to pinpoint the source.   sharon

I couldn't tolerate lettuce before surgery, so I'm guessing that hasn't changed. However, I have chopped up salad cucumbers, baby tomatoes, zuchini, sliced mushrooms and covered them with salt, pepper and a dressing I enjoy. If I take my time I can usually finish the meal.

I was allowed to add salad...actually I should say lettuce after two weeks with dressing.  Did ok, but it hit me quite a few hours later due to the roughage.  No pain, just running to the bathroom.  Gonna wait a little while longer till I hit it again.
