Z-Pack antibiotics post RNY

Hi,

I've never been one to use antibiotics often, but I've had the nastiest ear infection thing lately. I went for my second trip to the doctor this morning and they prescribed the Z-pack (you know ... that 5-day antibiotic superpill pack).

My insides are a little bothered by the antibiotic, which I'm sure is totally normal. But I forgot to ask if antibiotics are okay for us. I would think so, but have any of you had issues?

I am about 8 months post op (and boy do I need to update my profile pic. I'm only 6 pounds from goal).

I've used a Z-pack twice without any issues. I get a little queasy but other than that, no issues.

Might follow your doses with some yogurt? That may help protect your stomach & help ward off yeast infection. Good question though....

Antibiotics are FINE...Just follow the instructions. If it causes slight nausea take with a small amount of food. Also make sure to get some PROBIOTICS or yogurt to put GOOD bacteria back into your system...Some people get mild yeast infections (in their vaginal area or anal area) oryeast infections. Most do not;. (This can happen whether you are WLS paitient or not)

Warmly,
Jackie

I did a Zpack when I was I think 6-8 weeks post op due to a bad sinus infection.  I told this to my husbands aunt who is a pharmacist AND an RNY patient and she about freaked out on me because it is a harsh med on the stomach.
I tollerated it well and she was surprised.  It is not that it was 'bad' for me, but she said it is just a rough med to be on.
Cleared up my snot head pretty fast though.
