6 Week post-op!

Wow a lot can happen in six weeks!!! My computer has been on the fritz lately, as well as my phone, so no updates in a while! But, I went to my 6 week post op appt yesterday and it was marvelous! I was down to 205! My friend came over tonight and did my measurements and Ive lots of inches! The best part about it, was getting off my liquid diet!!! YAYAYAYAY!! I still don't get hungry, but I do find that everything taste so sweet to me and I was living off of instant mashed potatoes as my mainstay for the last couple of weeks. The first bite of solid food I had was a Ritz cracker! It was the best one I have ever tasted. I think it was more the crunch than anything. I have decided that those can only come out every now and then, or I could one cracker myself into my size 22 pants again!!! When I was at my appt, they told me about a product called BariWare.com, so I ordered a set. It is portion control sized dish, well I should say dishes, there are two of them, but they are connected in a tray. I am a gadget queen, so I had to order them! But they are just on pre-order now, and the shipping cost is ridiculous, but I got them anyway, figured it would be worth it, as I have been looking for something like that and have not been able to find anything that was that perfect for me. I got my little card that I can show to restaurants so I can get a reduced size meal. I have started going to a body sculpting class once a week and I love it! I have bought a couple of new items of clothing, because mine are getting very limited. I have been working on weeding out my closet the last couple of days, I am having to emotionally detatch myself from some of my clothes.... Crazy how we can get comfortable in our clothes and not really want to change some of them. I am in between sizes at the moment and am looking forward to buying more as time goes on, but I just dont want to buy to many in this size, because it would be a waste of money. So I am trying to mix and match and make it look like I have more than a few outfits. I did buy one shirt that was still just a tiggy small for me, but I liked it so it is waiting for me on further down on the losers bench. I have decided that clothing lines should be ashamed of themselves! Why in the world is there not a universal clothing size! It is crazy that I can fit into some 11/12 brands and 16/18s of other brands. But it really doesn't matter what size it is, I am just having fun trying stuff on, even if its tight and not the most attractive as of yet, it is fun knowing that in July I was in a 22 size pants and any size 11/12 14/16 was not going to go past my thighs and now I can button all of them up!!!! I am usuing caution and just trying them on, like I said, I don't want to buy a bunch just to have to get rid of something else!!! All is going well otherwise, except for Murphy and his laws seem to be hanging out with me lately. Just to name a few top ones and some may have already been mentioned previously, cant remember when I wrote last, but two blown out tires, Jeremy backed into a tree, and came home to a rattlesnake on my front sidewalk after my walk last night!!! So if anyone else has a vacation spot for Murphy, please send me the info and I'll send him! I would suggest that you don't make it your own address!!! LOL I am so sleepy I need to get sign off. I almost did't sign in, because I can literally spend hours on this site reading and absorbing, but it is midnight and I must stay on schedule, or I become a night owl and sleep all day!!! Hope everyone is doing well!

I too like kitchen gadgets. I found that the appetizer spoon work just well for most of my needs. If I use a fork, I was using a kid's fork for a couple of years. I have learned not to load it.

My plates are all luncheon size or smaller. I have cutsie ones that are more like a saucer size. I even have some blue fish shape ones that I got a a discount store called Christmas Tree.
I know it helps to see food on a smaller plate.

The cracker will not kill you it is that it makes you produce glucose so fast that will get you craving more.

We do develop different tastes. I know that I like sweets but it is only certain ones. I have some sugar free syrups that I may use. It is not my go to thing as if seems to be for some people.

I like Fage 0% plain yogurt. My friend who is a diabetic chose Chobani with fruit on the bottom. We went shopping today and I found a can deal on Delmonte canned tomatoes. I bought the no salt added she bought the regular. We had a store couple deal.

What do you like to eat now? Mashed potatoes was not giving you sufficient nutrition. Did you supplement with a protein shake?

That is so sweet to make sure I was eating right!  LOL.  Yes, I did have my protein shakes and yogurt and other stuff to get in my nutrients, but I just did not like the taste of them because of the sweetness, but I'm a rule follower, so I did what I was supposed to, It was just that the instant mashed potatoes were the only thing that really satisfied me and I enjoyed eating.  I am going on a hunt for some cute dishes today,  I have looked online, but nothing but the yum yum dishes tickled my fancy, so I am just going to go to look around.  One of my friends has a baby, and she left her spoon here last time and that has been what I have been using to eat with.  I really like it, and it really does the trick to taking small bites.  I had bought me a couple of small bowls a couple of weeks ago, because putting 2-3 oz of potatoes in a huge bowl does nothing for the appearance of the food!  Last night, I had fixed my son a pork roast with potatoes and carrots in the crockpot and I have one that has the divided sections and I put my dried pinto beans in the other side.  My nurse told me it was a try and see type deal with introducing new foods, so she said that alot of people can't handle the fat and grease from things, so I did not use anything in my beans except a chunk of onion and salt and pepper.  They were still fabulous!  I think being on liquids for that long really cleanses your palate from how you taste food!  If I had tried beans like that before my surgery, I would not have been able to eat them and actually enjoy it, but now things I did not enjoy before surgery taste really good to me.  I can't wait until my 8 week diet to kick in so I can have tuna again!  But for now, I am enjoying "playing" with my food!

WOW!!!  Way to go!  You have lost a lot in 6 weeks.  I guess staying on the liquid diet did it!  I was not on liquids for that long. You will see ONDERLAND very SOON!!!  CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!

I was thrilled at my progress!  I started tracking everything in a food journal Wednesday when I finally started to get to eat.  I wanted to be able to get in all my protein and I knew the only way I could keep up with it was to write it down.  I am still working on getting more protein in, but much easier now that I have some real food.  I am about to head out to try and find a smoothing that Kelly had mentioned in one of her post.  I haven't been to the Vitamin Shoppe lately, so Im headed out there to see what I can find to play around with.  It was funny when my nurse weighed me, she started out on the 150 pound weight and I laughed and said I don't think so, but when I was only 6 pounds away, I just giggled!  I couldn't believe it.  They crack up at me, because I take my camera and take a picture of the scale when I go.  I love to scrapbook, so I plan on making a fun scapbook of this journey!  I hope all is going well with you.  I haven't had time to get on here and read how everyone is doing since I just got my computer back last night and I dont have time this morning, but that is going to be relaxation time tomorrow!  Getting caught up on all the latest!  Take care of yourself!
