1 hour later after getting ready for the day i began to feel shakey so i took it again= 71

thats a huge difference. is this hypoglycemia? or normal blood sugar fluctuations after eating

thanks all! -Nicole

Did you have crackers with the soup?

What else had you eaten/drank that day?

I don't think the fluctuation is that abnormal.  But - it depends on other food you ate that day and what combinations of food.  Egg drop soup without crackers probably has some sugar.  71 isn't a really low blood sugar for most people.  I don't have low blood sugar until mine gets in 40-50's.

It doesn't sound abnormal for an hour later if you didn't eat it with crackers.  I would just keep watch and if you become someone who's sugar drops quickly and you feel shaky always keep a couple crackers or light snack bar in your purse :)  We're all different, even though 71 is still normal if you've always had high running numbers it may be that your body just isn't used to it yet.  I used to get the same way when I was on Glimepride but it caused migraines so I had to switch.

Peace & Blessings... Kelly

Post-Meal Blood Sugar (Postprandial)Independent of what they eat, the blood sugar of a truly normal person is:

Under 120 mg/dl (6.6 mmol/L) one or two hours after a meal.

Most normal people are under 100 mg/dl (5.5 mmol/L) two hours after eating.

Going normal after eating is normal. That's your body processing the sugar.  Eventually it comes back down - usually 2 hours after your meal.

When it drops too low -- you are more than likely looking at reactive hypoglycemia.

Hypoglycaemia or low blood glucose is a condition in which the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood, drops below a certain point (about 2.5mmol/l).

You could be heading down the pathway towards developing rh.  So keep watching it. Haivng a monitor is great!
