I felt hungry 2 days after surgery. They released me from the hospital when everyone was eating. IT drove me nuts!  I still feel hungry all the time. sometimes I wonder if I am eating too much. I am eating more than the dr recommends too.   3 oz chicken.   or 1/4-1/2 cup of soup.  If i eat eggs though I dont think I can quite get 1 whole one down.  you are def not alone!

Wynter, you are not alone. I felt hungry too. I was completely surprised.   I have noticed it has subsided a little from what it was in weeks one and two.

I still feel hungry, but now that I am on to mushy foods I do not get hungry as often. When I was on liquids only I was really hungry several times a day.

Are you taking a PPI?  Some people have thought they were hungry and found that taking a PPI (like Prilosec) stopped it.  Could have been the beginning of an ulcer.  I know when I had an ulcer it was like a gnawing feeling in my stomach, like hunger, and it felt better when I ate.

My surgery was Sept 12/11 and I have been struggling with serious hunger, even after my meals. My surgeon put me on regular food after two weeks and I thought it would subside, but it didn't. I thought the surgery was not going to work and I went through all of this for naught. I am now starting the wonder if it isn't something else. From my previous posts struggling with this issue, I see the grumbling is a normal part of RnY but I have been getting what I am interpreting as hunger burning in my gut. I am taking an acid reducer Tecta but I will be consulting with my doctor to see if I need something else to reduce the acid/burn after meals.
Best of luck but know that you are definately NOT alone....

It sounds to me like you might have an ulcer.  I looked up Techta since I had never heard of it - it is the same as protonix, so that should be protecting you from an ulcer but it is still possible.  Are you taking any NSAIDS?  pepto bismol, aspirin, arthritis medications, ibuprofen?  do you smoke?  alcohol?  All these things can cause ulcers.

Did you have an endoscopy preop to check for ulcers or the HPylori bacteria that causes ulcers?  It is possible that you had this preop and didnt' know it.  I recommend you call a gastroenterologist and ask for an Endoscopy to check for ulcers and the hpylori bacteria.

Don't smoke, drink, NSAIDS, pepto, aspirin, arthritis ibupro....none of those. I did have an edoscopy three weeks prior to surgery and everything was normal including the biopsies.
Some of the gut/hunger burning  I was having seems to be subsiding in the past couple of days.......maybe it might ease off. Feels like the burning you get when you are really hungry.
