Just wondering if anyone post op has joined one, or is considering joining one.  I know they cost a lot to join.  Was looking on the internet, most are mixed teams (men and women).  No real contact and no slap shots are allowed.  Thoughts??  I'm cross posting this on a few different forums...Just curious.  Also...Anyone taking up or going back to ice skating??
As I'm posting this, I'm just thinking out loud, that it would be a blast for some.  But then I'm thinking of the malabsorption issues and if over the years some might be more prone to bone loss and it could be a really bad idea...

I can't answer the hockey part, but I did begin figure skating again last summer, and love it (not that I was ever any good - stopping meant grabbing the wall, backwards was NOT done. I'm a lot better now!). My PCP and surgeon agree that, as long as I'm not jumping or falling, it's a non-impact aerobic activity that's great to do because it also is weight bearing which helps strengthen bones. I will be having dexa scans every 18 months, and if there's a drop in bone mass I'll need to deal with that then.

Otherwise - It's a great time!

Not I, but a close friend belongs to one and it seems to cost him quite a bit. He really enjoys it though and thinks its worth it.

Did you have a bone scan at one year postop? That was one of the last things they told me at my six month checkup - that I would be doing that every year from now on.

I was in karate before and after surgery and weight loss and its so much easier and more enjoyable at a lower weight, I have to say. And I'm better at it.

I played hockey on a women's league (and although it says no contact and no slap shots they were there-lol) and I had a blast.  Are you worried about the contact aspect of the sport or ???
I've done some pretty strenuous sports post op and have been fine. I did bruise more at first - like we all do - but once that went away it was not a big deal. It's great exercise and nice to build
muscle. Moving is so much easier, and skating do-able when you're able to exercise more.
Have fun.

To tell the truth...I've never ice skated in my life!!  I've only roller skated about 10 time...and never have done inline skating.  Just curious...  Think I'll stick with my bicycle...
