2-year check in
I expect nobody remembers me but I am just posting for the new folks on the board.
I had my RNY in June of 2009. I had it about a minute after I realized my insurance would pay for it. Well two or three weeks is probably more accurate. But I mean the decision was already made. I did research the other types of surgeries, and the sleeve was really the only other one that appealed to me, but RNY was what my insurance covered and I wasn't willing to wait one second. The post-RNY fit my lifestyle and I wasn't worried about adjustment issues. I was right.
I've had no complications. This is probably partly due to having good fortune, good health, a good surgeon, and being at a lower starting weight - less adjusting required of the lower organs as I lost weight.
I eat whatever I want pretty much, I just eat much less of it. I eat protein first just to keep my priorities straight. Two years out, I'm still losing, with long plateaues but who cares. Life gets better and better. I pretty much have control of my weight. If i want to lose, it takes a little work. It helps that I'm 46 and not 56 or 66.
My tastes have changed enormously since I started. My appetite has too.
I've had no "rebound" but then again I'm still losing.
At 2 years 4 months I can honestly say I LOVE my RNY. I love it. I have completely control of what I eat and how much, something I"ve never had before. It's given me so many things back I could hardly list them all. I just wanted to speak an encouraging word to those who are considering gastric bypass. GO FOR IT. Just pick the type of surgery that suits your needs and issues carefully, and be honest. RNY was any easy, easy fit into my lifestyle and I have regretted not one second of my choice.
May the great Spirit of the universe bless you all this holiday season.
